zvezdochka Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Hi Been away again, but managed to phone Mark at WF to talk through details of the upgrade. As already discussed this is effectively the same set up as the speed sport. Price does represent a real saving over buying a one-off from elsewhere or even from WF. Mark explained that a new engine loom will be provided. I don't relish trying to re-install through the transmission tunnel into engine bay as heater will be in the way unless scuttle is removed, but Mark suggested that a simple route would be through the scuttle like the heater pipes. Trying to pull cash together this week for deposit cheque as I don;'t want to miss out on this opportunity. Rick Quote
KerryS Posted October 10, 2005 Author Posted October 10, 2005 I don;'t want to miss out on this opportunity. No you don't!!! It won't work until there's enough folks to stump up the ££ Kerry S Quote
Flappa Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 I don't relish trying to re-install through the transmission tunnel into engine bay as heater will be in the way unless scuttle is removed, but Mark suggested that a simple route would be through the scuttle like the heater pipes. Looks like I got something right then... So what is different about the engine loom? Quote
zvezdochka Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Different connectors I think? Don't know how to size pictures, but somebody will? Quote
Ted Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 ...and how do I make my pictures smaller? Got a top tip off adhawkins, if you are running windows XP go to the microsoft site and search for XPpowertoys. There is an image resizer, download it and you will be able to resize the picture using a right click. TED Quote
Flappa Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Flappa makes 5, I think... Spoke to Chad at WF to put down my deposit, not sure exactly how many there are confirmed to date. Just a couple more maybe. Quote
KerryS Posted October 11, 2005 Author Posted October 11, 2005 I'll check with Mark at the end of this week, but I think he should have 5 deposits now me Mat1800 jak gavin Flappa If I've missed anyone out... Kerry S Quote
jak Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 My cheque will be in the post tomorrow, John. Quote
KerryS Posted October 11, 2005 Author Posted October 11, 2005 Sorry, John. Thought you'd already sent it. Kerry S Quote
Bill.Ashworth Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Cheque now written and will be in the post first thing tomorrow. I don't understand the comment about the engine loom & the scuttle/transmission tunnel. My engine loom is wholly in the engine bay. Quote
KerryS Posted October 12, 2005 Author Posted October 12, 2005 Thanks, Bill. Now We Are Six - a book title I think? (Arthur Ransome - Swallows and Amazons series) There are two wiring looms on the car, the main one (lights, switches etc etc) and a second one that links the sensors, ECU and engine. From what Mark said, I thought he was adding to that but maybe it's a new one altogether. Now, I ran my engine loom from the ECU over the passenger footwell, through a 50mm hole in the transmission tunnel cover in a similar manner to the main loom. This then ran over the gearbox/bell housing into the engine bay. From Flappa's photo, he ran his throughthe scuttle. If the loom has to be changed, he'll have less of a struggle than I will to re-fit a new loom. Does that help? Kerry S Quote
MAT1800 Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Or you could have placed your ECU on the front of the scuttle under a plastic cover, making it very easy to change the ignition loom. Quote
KerryS Posted October 12, 2005 Author Posted October 12, 2005 True - I had assumed Bill had a "standard" Madness kit but of course I have seen some cars with ECU in the engine bay. Kerry S Quote
Tamariki Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Dumb question # 34, will this very interesting conversion still meet the dreaded emissions level at future MOT's ?? Quote
