wet sprints

i know its not comparing like for like but a recent thread about sporty road tyres (eg list 1a) vs sticky road tyres (eg list 1b) in the wet got me thinking

do the guys in class F swap tyres wet/dry or do they stick with sticky rubber

if running on sticky rubber are they still quicker than class ? (whatever the windscreen upto 2.o litre 1a class is)

just curious

Actually, that's a damn fine question from OiOi :t-up:

Need to trawl the results now...

You're assuming that the class F boys are quicker than the 1a drivers to start with.  Especially is Ash is around, it isn't necessarily the case  :p

Roll on tomorrow's new photoshopped avatar  :t-up:

This years event weather, courtesy of davidgh is as follows:

North Weald was........... very damp....

Croft........................... featured a lake on the circuit....

MIRA was....................  quite damp....

3 Slappers was.............. inundated....

Olly (Sat) was................see my (previous) avatar....

Olly (Sun) was................merely wet....

Jockhill was....................a deluge....

Pembrey (Sun) was..........soaking....

So, have a shufty at the results pages and compare times. Simple... as long as you ignore Ash, who would be fast regardless of weather, tyre choice or pie consumption...

Where? The results spreadsheet shows the points, not the times. At least, the one I'm looking at does ???

Forget it. I'm being a tit again...

So, results from Croft...

Class A, up to 1.7l, non sticky tyres, full screen, winning time 98.99

Class B, 1.7l+, non sticky tyres, full screen, winning time: 93.90 secs.

Class C up to 1.7l, non sticky tyres, full screen, winning time 95.83

Class D 1.7l+ non sticky tyres, full screen, winning time 90.52

Class F 1.7l+, including 'Busa's, sticky tyres, aeroscreen, winning time 92.95 (and it was a 'Busa).

At 3 Sisters, the Class F winner (same 'Busa) would have been 4th in class C, but would have won class D by just 2 tenths.

So it's close as to what's faster from what we can see in the results this year. Honours appear to be reasonably even between aero'd sticky tyred cars and screened non sticky tyred cars...

The RGBs that the 750MC race are useless in the wet - can't remember which sticky tyre they run - a dry Yoko something. Even my little Locost was cornering better than them in the wet - I was overtaking them in the Allcomers race (including the mid-engined Radical looking things). So yes, to my mind, a dry sticky tyre is definitely worse than a 1A (I use Yoko 539s).
