I speak from experience from other organisations and whilst I agree with your sentiments, there are many disadvantages with the trailer idea already voiced in other posts.

I think before parting with any dosh you ( we? ) have gotta be clear about what it is we are trying to achieve.

New members to WSCC

New owners of Westfields, in which case should westfield bung a bit in?

Jo public who is just there for a look?

At £10 per head how many of therse were at Donnington?

The tent at Donnington seemed ideal, but Im not to sure how effective it was at attracting new interest, or was it just a focal point for existing members or owners?

As a newby with a car I thought it was ok but perhaps a bit intimidating if I was a complete undecided, nervous, potential newby.

To sum up, good idea, but think must think through what we want to achieve before going the trailer route.

hope this helps

Rob

O.K. Here's the idea  :D  :D

Over the past several months / couple of years the mag has at various times asked for someone to step forward as show co-ordinator  :)  :D  :D  and there have been pages set aside for show attendees to do a write-up or send in some photo's  :D  :D  sadly all to no avail  :(  :(  the response has been under-whelming  :(  :(  Blank pages

With the exception of Garry B's and Chris E's hard work and sterling efforts for Donington in 2002 and 2003  :D  :D  there's been nowt much reported  :(  :(

Why not  ???  ???  ???  every week, particularly in summer there are hundreds of WSCC members out there somewhere doing their thang at shows  :D  :)  :)

It's a side of the club that is extremely active and of interest to many members, yet we hear very little  :(  :(  ???  ???  how come  ???  ???

We have discussed things at committee level and can't fathom it out  :durr:  :durr:  :D  :)  ???

What we'd like to look at providing is a dedicated show trailer that could be towed to events by those attending and used by club members  :D  :D  it could contain items such as a dedicated club eeeziii up, flags and banners, tables, chairs, signage, membership forms, club info packs and generally everything that could create a focal display point at many shows, such as Exeter, Newark, Donington, Malvern and Yorkshire, but to name a few  :D  :D  :D

Obviously before such an outlay of club funds we need to know that (a) It's gonna be used often (B) It will be kept safe and secure and © made available to as many folks as possible  :D  :D  :D  :D

Do you think its something we could / should enter into  ???  ???  ??? Obviously the volunteer entrusted with the kit would need to tow the trailer and possibly not attend in his/her Westfield, a small downside perhaps.

And before anyone says it - we ain't gonna be buying a bus or truck  :D  :)  :)  ;)  ;)

Mark, you have PM (and I don't mean Pert Mams)

Without wishing to be too contentious...

The only people who have towbars on their cars to tow a trailer are those who do the Speed Series or track days.  They are generally out at these motorsport events and therefore are not likely to be in a position to tow a trailer to a show.

Mark - you know I support the principle.

And those with CARAVANS  :0    ;)

and those of us that 'used' to have trailers :)

I like the idea in principal but my only reservations come from experience with the IAM. The local group I was involved in had a Mobile Display Unit. Generally speaking it needs someone with time and space to store it. Plus, if you're towing a MDU to a 2 day show, where do you stay?

We were always falling fowl to the tow person going on holiday with his caravan when the MDU was required.

Like I said, like the idea but the person responsible for the Unit would have to be dedicated (or commited :) )

Here's the accountants suggestions -

a) get a covered car trailer - which would at least be usable for other purposes (Hired to members?).  Disadvantages are as noted above, plus it would invariably be in the wrong place, being used for something else, whenever needed.

b) find the co-ordinator and somewhere to keep all the kit, and then budget to beg/borrow or hire a van when needed.

How about a trailer big enough to take the Westy and the show bumf !!!??? (split level)

Just an idea

And those of use who tow aircraft carriers :(  I could use my trailer to tow my car, the proposed WSCC Trailer plus sleeping accommodiation for 12!!

Ditto the idea but agree with JDchrome

I fully understand the dilema

When I was active (more time) with the Rover P5 Owners Club we had a signwritten club trailer.

Worked very well until the question of secure storage between shows etc and over the winter came up and everyone disappeared into the background.

I suggest you try and gain commitment from others cos once its bought it will need to be used and if only a few get involved its a real pain flogging all around the country so that the `trailer` is in the right place at the right time.

I dont mean to sound negative but as usual it is a few dedicated souls and unsung heroes like you that do all the work.

I dont have any excuse myself apart from not enough time due to working loooooong hours in London  ???  ???

Whilst not been into shows at all I can perhaps offer a solution to the storage problem if such an idea ever made it off the drawing board.  Based in chesterfield I'm not sure how much use it would be.

What about a club motor home as well        I could store and look after that for us  :D

Identifying a coordinator / equipment keeper is going to be the tricky part.

To start with however, we should assist our committee with the justification of this expenditure by identifying the amount of use it will get.

To do this please could you list here, or Via Private Message (to me) all events, shows, exhibitions, fairs that you know of in 2004 that would attract a decent WSCC turn-out (no I do not know how many equals decent) and that would benefit from a visual presence.

This will not be used to formalise a definitive list, it will just serve to measure the use that the facility could enjoy.

The WSCC is your club.

Run by members for the benefit of members.
