7SE Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I have a neighbour with a C class estate, they think it is cr*p for carrying stuff in the back; there is no room. The sloping design eats away all the usable space. If you are seriously looking to lug wardrobes, or anything of any size then think very carefully. If you are replacing a decent size Volvo estate, then perhaps you should be thinking E-class or 5-series estates. OTOH what is the current incarnation of the T5? Volvo have done some seriously sporting estates in recent years. i dislike BMW drivers attitudes (personnal issue) I wasn't sure if that was a typo of 'personal' or 'personnel' Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I personally wouldn't choose either. I don't like the look of the Merc. Too old school for me and the build quality ain't what it should be for that sort of money and I can confirm the probs with electrics as my brother has had both. As for the 3 series BMW Come on Andy you will loose what reputation/respect you have if you go with that thing its a s bad as buying a Subaru Impratza. Have you thought about a 5 series est.? Prices are excellent & without the 'chav' factor of a 3 series. Buy a transit van and 'bling it up' You'll have no problems with vandalism, it'll be cheaper insurance, better fuel economy, ideal for the business and a dam sight more street 'cred' than driving a 3 series. Mike H Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Mike H. (IMHO) this forum should enable members to discuss all matters, not just Westfield related ones and where better to get recommendations about other types of car than on an 'enthusiast' boardroom Oh I agree with that to a certain extent. I just think all the posts about new cars are getting funny. Granted some people have experience that may be relevant but you're better off going to a Merc or BM ownsers board to get pro's and cons of a particular model. But if you want to advertise that you are in the market for an expensive new motor then here's as good a place as any Anyway I would go with the Merc, but not silver. Neither will shift much gear tho' Alternatively go for the one with the nice dash! Grumpy Mike Quote
Bazzer Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 The BM is nice but why bother with the estate as the boot is so tiny on it, it sort of misses the point of being an estate. Cheers Bazzer Quote
Bananaman Posted March 1, 2005 Author Posted March 1, 2005 The BM is nice but why bother with the estate as the boot is so tiny on it, it sort of misses the point of being an estate.Cheers Bazzer I had a 320d saloon & found it a pain for shifting stuff, with the estate i can get a set of spare set of wheels/tyres in the back along with tools etc......... & i can go to the tip (with the posh'st car Mike H ) I don't want a barge line 5 series or E class, just after one sorty practical car to replace the two sporty & practical cars i have at the moment.... As for p******** i managed 5'8" the other day........... I recon I'll go for the BMW although there 10apenny & have a slightly dodgy image, it does the job & thats all that counts in my book. Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Banana's as Bazzer says the boots are crap on the BM's there not a true estate car. Most manufactures extend the floorpan to make a bigger luggage area but BM just use the saloon floorpan and extend the roof. Buzz Quote
peterg Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Granted the BMW 3 Series estate boot is smaller than my previous Passat BUT it's a lot bigger them some people on here make out.... the Autocar (or What Car) test commented along the lines of "the boot space is big enough to make people think twice about needing a 5 Series" I've got two large dogs and they fit in it fine and when we were helping a friend move stuff between houses even I was surprised at the amount we could fit in it Quote
chrisbin Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Between those 2 it has to be the Beemer for driving pleasure. No way the Merc will ever get close. But you have to put up with the image issue..... Have you looked at the X-Type estate.....I was quite impressed by it tbh. Only other idea is the Accord Tourer - probably the most exclusive of the lot !!! Quote
chairemangeezer Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Hi all For the odd times I browse this forum and read the comments on sporty estate cars I never see the Subaru legacy mentioned, ?? I think the new 3.0R B Speck is worth a look @ 245bhp 0-60 in 6.5 sec 4wd It’s got to be worth a test drive? pete Quote
a4gom Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I'm after selling the 944 & Volvo Estate & replacing with sporty estate for towing & fun??? If only I'd know we could have done a deal. I've just upgraded <!--emo& my car from a lovely sporty estate to a sporty 2 door hatchback The estate would have towed your westie all day long whilst fully laiden. I'd even carpeted it out in a nice flowery blue to protect the original carpets. £50 on the drive, £7500 in the garage thats the way to do it!! Quote
