If the cruise was set at 75mph, then you may want to get the dealer to verify that it's functioning properly. You may have a *legitimate* case for being unaware that a fault with your vehicle is to blame for your inadvertent speeding...

Err...

'I didn't know I was speeding officer, cos the cruise control was set at 75mph.'

Can nobody else see the flaw in that excuse? ???

Andy

Ah but i was working on the 10% rule !!!

As for the coments about the police catching propper criminals, the stats do show that excessive speed and bad driving contribute to far more injuries and deaths than any other cirmes by miles.  So if you want to make a difference then target drivers

I would be interested to know whose stats they are are they give us ,

A well known fact is that

'statistics and statistitions can tell lies'

A less well known fact is that

'policemen and polititions ALWAYS tell the truth'

and who says 30 mph is speeding , speed needs to be adjusted to suit road conditions at the time .

sometimes 30mph will be to fast

sometimes it would be safe to exeed the 30 limit imposed in "some" areas by money making morons.

You can't enforce speed limits .

but  fortunately "most" concientious drivers observe them .

I have a problem with the basic onus *always* being placed on the driver. IF all these pedestrian deaths were caused by drivers mounting the pavement, then fair enough. However, I strongly suspect that the majority of death and injury to pedestrians is caused by them being in the road, and not exercising due care when crossing. How can it *always* be the drivers fault? It can't, IMO. Maybe we should encourage motorists who aren't at fault to claim against pedestrians for damages caused by their negligence (not using a crossing when it's 5 yards away, jumping railings and things like that). Once a few household (public liability parts of) policies start getting "used", we may see some balance restored...

Blatman I couldn't agree more !

But it seems to me that you would have to take on Public opinion which is conditioned to think in terms of the driver being the guilty party no matter what .

He is the one in charge of the lethal weapon and was driving at an "inconsiderate" speed "obviously" or why was he not able to stop to avoid the accident ?

And where do the majistrates stand with this , I can't believe they are totally impartial, the media hype must affect there judgement .

Actually, I have a great faith in the legal system once you get past Magistrates who may or may not be impartial depending on if they're part of the safety partnerships :bangshead:

I firmly believe that pedestrians should exercise reasonable care when crossing a road, especially if they are not using crossing facilities that I pay for out of my road fund licence/local/income tax, and which seem to be about 10 yards apart in most towns. In fact, I believe the Highway Code has guidelines for pedestrians, same as it does for cyclists and drivers. I would *really* like to see a pedestrian in court trying to defend not abiding by the guidelines and having caused an accident. Surely the rules/law must apply equally under the cold gaze of a Judge?

I think it's illegal in Switzerland to cross a main road at somewhere other than a designated crossing point, or at a designated crossing point when the red man is showing.

PS I still can't find the corkscrew, I've borrowed one  :D

What's this thing on covering your plate in some cosmetic stuff so it acts like a mirror when Gatso flashed ????

What ??? how ??? and does it work ???        :D

The plate is sprayed with a highly reflective material so that the photographic image recorded by the Gatso is grossly over-exposed. This in turn renders the number illegible unless you manipulate the image electronically which the Police cannot do as that is interferring with the evidence.

If you are caught and it is proven that you have treated your number plates , then you could be charged with obstructing the law. The penalty is a bit more than £60 fixed penalty notice.

I got stiched up a couple of years ago by a cycleist riding into the side of my car....

As far as the insurance company were concerned it was automatically my fault. The fact that the guy could see me for the best part of 100 yards, and he (by his own admission) was going faster than the speed limit, behind a row of stationary cars is not a defence !

We are the devil incarnate... just remember that when you pay for your next

TAXed Fuel with VAT on top

Road TAX

Insurance Premium TAX

VAT on your car

and now

Speeding TAX

Some great points made but i am infuriated by the points system, i was caught and booked on the m4 in wales for 82 mph, ok fair cop £60 fine and 3 pionts, but are the points justified, is 12 mph over a limit so naughty that they can take away your livelyhood? just seems way OTT to me, Where are all the traffic police gone! love to see them on the road, would stop people reading the paper or minutes of the meeting they are late for! and with no idea of whats going on around them! which is worse? :bangshead:

People are often knocked down when they're drunk. In fact, around half of all pedestrian deaths between the ages of 16 and 60 are due to intoxication. ...

Jost got a FPN speed fine thro' the post for doing 80mph on the M180 towards Grimsby @ 1pm last sunday afternoon! The motorway was vertually empty.

Buzz,

I'd challenge it if I were you, - it's got to be wrong, - you were in a Micra for god sake, - you couldn't have hit 80!!!
