Blatman Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 It's a tough call for me. Whilst I sympathise and want to fight the b******ds, the other half of me has a question. If the NIP says 80mph, what was your speedo showing? If it's as (in)accurate as most cars seem to be, then there is every chance your speedo could have been showing a speed well in excess of 80, and maybe even as high as 90. So there would seem to be little room for the claim that 80mph is only 1mph over the ACPO guideline, 'cos you wouldn't have actually known that from the drivers seat... Quote
Frau Vesty Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Well that's just a ridiculous suggestion, Arm. Everyone knows that donkeys can't get a driving licence, let alone insurance Blatman: I thought speedos were only allowed to be inaccurate in the overestimate direction? And I'm not talking about swimming trunks. Quote
cidersurfer Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 And I'm not talking about swimming trunks. My speedos are highly inaccurate. I'm definately thinner than they claim. Quote
Blatman Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Blatman: I thought speedos were only allowed to be inaccurate in the overestimate direction? Thats what I mean. If the NIP says 80, chances are his speedo was saying quite a bit more, so the "I was only 1mph over" arguement doesn't wash, 'cos the speedo was almost certainly showing 85mph or more... Quote
Frau Vesty Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Aaaah yes that makes perfect sense now. Quote
Blatman Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 It made sense to me first time round. You been having a liquid lunch again? Quote
chrisbin Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 It made sense to me first time round. You been having a liquid lunch again? not without the corkscrew, she can't..... made sense to me, too, btw...... Quote
adhawkins Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 not without the corkscrew, she can't..... She could have tried my spoon / fork tip... Andy Quote
chrisbin Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 well she's obviously having a siesta now........ Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted February 21, 2005 Author Posted February 21, 2005 Fair point Blats but as I said I was tootling along and on most of the journey I didn't get above 80 mph as the cruise control was on 75 mph(you know what cruise control is like its got a mind of its own and its on a german car) as I weren't in a rush.. I'm still gonna contest it tho' Buzz Quote
Blatman Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Whilst I sympathise and want to fight the b******ds.... Hey, I'm on your side. If the cruise was set at 75mph, then you may want to get the dealer to verify that it's functioning properly. You may have a *legitimate* case for being unaware that a fault with your vehicle is to blame for your inadvertent speeding... Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted February 21, 2005 Author Posted February 21, 2005 Just spoken with dealers. Their gonna have a look at it next week when I'm back at work. Thanks for that Blats!! Buzz Quote
Muttleys V8 Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Buzz I have a little sat nav device that will tell you the true speed, you can borrow it if you like... My speedo at 80mph is about 2-3 mph lower on the sat nav. Steve Quote

You may have a *legitimate* case for being unaware that a fault with your vehicle is to blame for your inadvertent speeding... Err... 'I didn't know I was speeding officer, cos the cruise control was set at 75mph.' Can nobody else see the flaw in that excuse? Andy Quote
Blatman Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Yup. I am kind of hoping that Buzz has enough nous to state that there is a fault with the cruise, and leave it at that... Quote
