SVA test and differential

I`m looking at dropping a 3.62 in as this should cure the problem.

It won't. The 3.62 will only add about 2 or 3mph to first gear at max revs. The problem is that the standard 1st on both the MT75 and type 9 boxes is there so that a Ford Cortina/Sierra, 5 up with luggage and towing a caravan can pull away uphill. Look at the ratios. 1st is a 3.xx, 2nd is a low 2.xx or a 1.xx. Not only is 1st too short, but it's a *big* drop to second.

If you fit a diff that makes 1st workable, the gap to second becomes *much* worse, and 5th becomes useless in a screened car unless you have big power...

Sticking with 3.62 for now and intending will change at a later date to a type 9 or change the MT75 if the different ratios ever become available. I've heard Mitchell Cotts are going to be manufacturing MT75 gears.

cheers for all the responses.

I've heard Mitchell Cotts are going to be manufacturing MT75 gears.

When I've spoken to the Mitchell Cotts people they seem to only be interested in making direct OEM replacement parts, rather than supplying individuals or specialists companies with parts or accessories. I'm reasonably confident that they won't be making close ratio gearsets for any of the Ford 'boxes they manufacture in the forseeable future. They wouldn't even sell me a bulk order of synchro rings when I asked them, and I offered to buy in serious bulk...
