Proposal for next South Wales meet

Following a very successful first meet last night I thought we need to decide where we go from here.  We had a total of 14 people turn up with 4 Westies, which is not bad for a very cold and dark January night!!  And things look rosy for the future with discussions of a test day at Llandow, an A470 weekend run, a Top Gear Welsh Roads blat, an ice karting event, a vintage and specialist rally event etc all underway.

The biggest thing which came up last night though is how we meet.  We have members ranging form Chepstow to Pembroke which means we are covering a 120 mile area.  The group is split between a concentration of about 11 from the Cardiff/Newport area plus 3 from the Swansea/West Wales area plus whoever else joins from our articles in Westfield World.  I don’t think it is going to be logistically possible to keep everyone happy and meet as one big groups on evening meets.

From the discussion last night I propose we meet as two groups on a monthly basis, one based in North Cardiff, and one based in Swansea / West Wales, and get together as one big group at least once a quarter for an organised event (like the ones above).  In summer I would expect we would meet as a big group more often for special events to make the most of the weather and the roads in the Breacons!!

I am volunteering to organise the Cardiff meets (AO I suppose!!;), and propose a pub called the Black dangler in North Cardiff.  This is a cracking pub with good food, good beer, a large very safe car park which can be seen from both the bar and beer garden.  It is 5 minutes from the M4 and 5 minutes from some superb blatting roads.  A perfect venue really!!!  I need to chat with them before I propose dates, but would be aiming for our next meet sometime in Feb.  I’ve got everyone’s contact details so I will let you all know in due course.

Anyone willing to organise the West Wales / Swansea end?

P'raps Mr Chairman or someone could advise of any formalities that need to be addressed to become an official "Area".....??

Oh and something that we need to add to the calendar will be the SS heats at Llandow/Llys y Fran. i know a few of us have spectated in the past but perhaps we can "officially support" these heats in future....??

By the way, for those who haven't experienced The Black dangler....... ;)  :p  ;)  you can find it

hey,

i thought last nite went very well. we had a good turn out and it was our 1st meet.  :D

i did feel a little weired being almost half the age of most that turned out last nite.

Mat is the Black dangler the pub at the end of your road?

wot r the dates for the ss at llandow and the other place?

i would like to enter them.

the problem that me and my dad were discussing is that where ever we meet it will not suit every1 whether it be the location/time/date ect... but im sure we can sort that out.

we got to give it too pembroke pat who braved out the cold and the total of 4hrs driving to be there last nite.

That'd be the Pantmawr Jon.

If you click on the "here" in my last post you can see where Black dangler is...

SS events are listed somewhere within this site......try going to home page and I think there's a listing there.

"Thanks" for the dig about the age thing.....

;)

Good effort on your behalf too, trailering the Westy to the meet - not sure whether the car park at The dangler will be big enough for you mind....... ;)  :D

Hi Jon,

No its not the one at the end of my road!!!!  I`m not that cheeky!!  Although it is not that far away.  Seemed an ideal location with its facilities, and was faily central for the eleven from Bridgend/Cardiff/Newport.  I think we will struggle to find somewhere central from everyone from a 120 mile area.

I agree we won`t be able to pick time and place etc to suit everyone, which is why I suggested splitting the evening meets up to make it easier.

For those who are wondering about Jons age comments, we reckon he must be the youngest Westfield builder ever at just 16!!!  Hats off to him.  Not a bad first car.....

i didnt mean anythin by the age comment its just im 16 and by the sounds of it i might be the youngest westy owner.

Depending on when the next meet is my westy might have passed sva but if not ill come in dads tin top  :(

4 last nites meet at sarn, i only lived 5mins away so it wasnt a hastle to put the car on the trailer and tow it down to the nxt junction.

it doesnt look dificult to get to the black dangler its just i heard mat say the pub was close to his house, so i thought he ment the 1 at the end of his road. but i was wrong

evening all

nice to meet everyone last night and put some faces to names!

been talking to a friend from `the dark side` who said they had been considering the black dangler as a venue for a meet - but apparently the roads leading to it are quite rough and unfriendly towards 7 sumps!

maybe something to consider...........

Yes, an excellent turn out, especially for Pembroke Pat, that was most certainly a serious effort  :D

I think we should have a good basis for a strong meet considering the turn out last night, especially if Mat can get a mention in the next issue of Westfield World.

It was a good night, but my memory means i cannot remember everyone's name so all the posts are as unfamiliar as ever.

:bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

Roads were somewhat slippy on way home, sideways at every roundabout, total fun :D  :D

I think a meet every so often to encompass the  West Wales contingent will be well worth the effort, I for one will endeavour to travel to the West Wales meet when I can.

Cheers all

Jim,

The roads around the Black dangler are OK, one of which has recently been re-surfaced so is fantastic!!!  I`ve been up in my westie with a standard zetec sump and chasis hoop with no problems at all.  The only thing I can think of is if you come on a back road from Castell Coch there are a couple of speedbumps.  However no-one from the group would come from that direction, and if they did there is another route which is not much further.

Don't worry, your car will be safe!!!

BTW,  I 'fraid we missed the deadline for WW.  When I contacted the editor yesterday, he explained it was allready at the printers, so nothing we could do.  BUT we will be in the next issue

Mat,

I was at the factory yesterday sorting out some bits for my build.  I have decided to change to injectors as Weber have stopped supplying new carbs.  I sat in on the AOs meeting, and volunteered to be the AO for South Wales, not realising that you were picking up the mantle.

So, not wishing to steal your thunder, do you need any help organising the Newport/Cardiff  meetings?  I am on the Cardiff side of Newport, near J28 (Tredegar House).

Regards,

Trevor Clarke
