Pete Collins Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I don't think that formatting alone will necessarily destroy any old existing data that was there before formatting. To all intents and purposes, a hard disk format will remove any data from the disk. Ok, if someone really wanted to (and not too much had been written to the disk after formatting) they could get data from it. However, a 'standard' OS like XP won't see things on the disk. To the OS it'll look completely empty. Andy So - we still don't know how it happened then Quote
adhawkins Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Depends on what it detected. Some things detected as spyware are just tracking cookies and the like. You've only got to visit one website to pick up a few of them... Andy Quote

adhawkins Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Certainly not from the avatars service (although the 'management' interface does use cookies, serving of avatars themselves doesn't). However, I might put in some monitoring soon to try to track down the numerous people trying to use the avatar service to post images to other forums... Andy Quote

adhawkins Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Yep, you have. Of course, they get blocked, so they don't get what they think they're getting (probably just a nice piece of paper with a red 'X' in it...) Andy Quote
Frau Vesty Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Thought I'd better add this, news today: Banking trojan disables MS anti-spyware Quote
neilwillis Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Will they pay off my overdraft too Mrs W? Quote
Frau Vesty Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I doubt it, they'd probably apply online for a bigger overdraft/loan before nicking the lot Quote
