It's not released, so use it at your own risk.

If it breaks your computer, you get to keep all the pieces.

Or, put another way...

Microsoft want to test it cheaply, so they're letting us test it.

I might send them a bill. IT consultancy ain't cheap these days...

Blatters - you may struggle. Win98 is not supported.

Might download it anyway for a laugh, just to see what happens...

All this has prompted me to do a scan using Spybot. OK, so it's detected a few problems - but it repeatedly crashes when I try to "fix" them.

Is anybody else having similar problems with Spybot? I've uninstalled, downloaded a clean version but still having the same problem.

Are there any other similar recommended freebie utilities out there?

Not crashing. But taking a hell of a long time to correct the errors. It will come up not responding if I try to do anything to the window during this time but if I leave it long enough it will finish.

Hehe. Just noticed this is my 300th post  :D

As with every Microsoft product you install unless you or your company has a support agreement with them.  Failing that its www.technet.com, google or the groups for support.

This beta smells like it will become a paid service in the future but lets enjoy it for now.

Having to use IE and Firefox now due to Firefox being unable to login to sites or logout of them properly :bangshead:

I installed windows on a freshly formated drive about 6 months ago, i had adaware on disk and decided to install it and run it even before my pc had been connected to the internet and guess what found some spyware, how can that be explained.

I don't think that formatting alone will necessarily destroy any old existing data that was there before formatting. Hence, I would assume that the adware was present on your hard disk before the new install.

Richgm,

Thanks for your reply. You're absolutely right; I left it to grind away for a while and, low and behold, it did it's job.

Many thanks

Pete

To all intents and purposes, a hard disk format will remove any data from the disk.

Ok, if someone really wanted to (and not too much had been written to the disk after formatting) they could get data from it. However, a 'standard' OS like XP won't see things on the disk. To the OS it'll look completely empty.
