Camel_Landy Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 It's Gaffer tape in my book... Should be an essential part of anyones tool kit. I've held together many a lighting rig with that stuff in the past. Mark. Quote
SteveF Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 From memories of student days working as a light/sound/stage techie (Bradford Uni TSA) - gaffer was generally 'found' in 3 different colours - black / silver / white. Black was general purpose and easy to find, silver was quite common - but supposedly not electrically insulating - no good for taping the the tails into the 3 phase , white was prized as it wasn't easily aquired - and as you say often used as labels by the sound techs Quote
StuartMackay Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 O Mighty tome of useful information, Blatters.......what is a key grip then?? Is it the film industry version of an apprentice tea stirrer's mate?? Goin ever so slightly off topic here?? Quote
Peter Cox Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 Goin ever so slightly off topic here?? Oh don't worry about that, look where we've been... 1) Good footballer/ bad driving = OT 2) Sticky stuff of indeterminate origin = OT 3) Film crew role definitions = OT ...your just continuing a theme Quote
Blatman Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I thought Best Boy was the term for a gaffers apprentice. Not sure precisely what a Key Grip is, but I'm sure Google has the answer.. Quote
Peter Cox Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 I though "Key Grip" equated to "Head of Baggage Handling". Quote
Blatman Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Along with making the tea... isn't that what apprentices are for? Quote
Peter Cox Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 Brewing (or "mashing" as it's known locally) a pukka cuppa char is indeed a valuable asset in life. I think apprentices should be made to pay their employers for a 1 year course, majoring in tea brewing. There's no "evil-employer" emoticon so I'll go with Quote
Dracoro Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I wonder what Ian Wrights opinion on the naming of sticky tape is? Quote
scruffythefirst Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I can officialy confirm that the camerman I worked with calls the wide sticky stuff gaffer and the thinner not so sticky stuff as camera tape.... Quote
SteveF Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Just to bring things back on to topic - I found this on Ebay Sounds a bit suspect: Ferrari F550 Maranello Wheels xxx QUICK SALE xxx Seller name - mufc1976 - sounds a little like a footballer Location - Surrey - is Croyden in Surrey Put 2 + 2 = Ian Wright selling bits off his knackered ferrari?
