If it's on 40's/45's or throttle bodies, then you'll be needing some hotter cams. If it is]/i] on throttle bodies, it may well need the map tweaking too. There is no such thing as cheap horsepower.....

Didn't I read somewhere that changing the ECU plus one other part from the 2.0l has a positive effect.

I am sure Blatman will remember this one.

I think it's putting 2 litre cams in isn't it? Doubt you'd get more than 145 out of it just by doing that though...

Yep. With 145bhp, it sounds like it has the 2.0l cams and ECU already. Any more means getting oily and bashing the credit card...

2 weeks and he's already power hungry - welcome to THE club for speed, excitement and getting the Pi$$ taken out of you!

:D:D:D:D:D

The cheapest way of getting more power, as has been said is to swap the cams for a set of 2ltr ones.

A bit more info regarding the current setup would be useful to know though.

i feel the need for speed :D  :D  :D

the engine is from an RS1800 fiesta but not sure if the cams would be any different to a normal 1800.Also has webber 40's and has a alpha 3d ignition.

Do a search to find out how to tell what cams are fitted.   There was a good thread not long back regarding that.

I am told that it is possible to get 200+ out of a Zetec (2 litre I would guess) without throwing too much money at it.   A little porting and flowing of the head, skimming 40 thou? off it, uprating the cams, fitting ARP bolts etc.

Don't forget of course that your figure is probably an "at the wheels figure" which will always seem lower than  you would like.   145 HP is still not a bad figure IMHO.

If you do a search on cams you will probably see I`ve had a bit of a monopoloy on the subject as I`ve been looking at the same on my 1800 ZETEC.

Here goes:

The 1800 ZETEC came in three specs 105BHP, 115BHP, and 130BHP.  The only difference for the power in each was the cams used.  The RS1800 engine had the 130 cams installed, and is thus the highest standard set you can get.

The 2 litre unit (130bhp) uses different cams again, but are very similar to the 1800 130 ones.  Chatting to a couple of specialists (Alan Fereday was extremely helpfull), if people have the lower powered 1800 and want to upgrade, they simply use the 2 litre cams (which is what I am doing).  Upgrading from 130bhp 1800 cams to 2litre cams will have no effect.

Sticking a 1800 or 2 litre onto twin 40s/45s should up the power to about 150 and 165 bhp respectfully (asuuming 130 cams).  Dunnel and Fereday etc do a couple of upgrades which include new cams and a ported head which should take power up to 180 - 195 bhp respectfully.

My plan is to leave the 1800 engine in mine and buy a newer 2 litre unit, to strip down overhaul and tune as described above.  That way I should get a superb power package, but also still be able to use the car in the mean time as I will have a standard engine in it.

Might be a bit premature though as the first engine isnt yet in!!!!!

Hope this helps, from my research I found Alan Fereday (search on google for FEREday cars) to be exceptionally helpfull.

Ta,

Mat

Yup, but I think a grand is worth spending, and bangs for bucks, it's not a bad return wouldn't you agree?

Anything more, and you are talking serious money of course.
