S8ight Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 You wanna try strapping a couple of old JATO rockets to the roll bar. In fact, I'm sure I've read about som-one who did that, with some success but ending in massive failure.... been done again. two guys had a show on discovery testing out urban myths. this was one of the things they did Quote

markcoopers Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 Out of interest, FIA Main event this bank Holiday weekend at SANTAPOD in Northamptonshire. All the truly big engines and cars are running, both car and bike. £20 for sat, £26 each or Sunday and Monday on the gate. You will need ear defenders/plugs. Don't bother geting out of bed if rain is forcaste, nothing runs. Quote
Martin Keene Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I've been on Concorde you know....... and the "amazing facts" are broadcast from the cockpit about every half an hour...... Git... Something I always wanted to do, won't happen now... sob... I'm not jealous really... To (badly) quote Clarkson, who was interviewed after the final flight:"The aviation industry has just take a giant leap 30 years in to the past." Very true... another Clarkson quote about Concorde I liked was about the French accident the other year. He said it was the first time since the Titantic where the loss of the machine was almost as sad as the loss of the people. Quote
Blatman Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Something I always wanted to do, won't happen now... sob... Dream come true for me. Best part was, I had no idea what was going on until Blatgirl frogmarched me in to the terminal under false pretences, pointed me to the Concorde desk, and told me to hurry up and check in! She's a *top* girl......... Funnily enough I was rooting around in my loft at the weekend, looking for things to flog on E-bay when I came across some *really* old photos I'd taken on a primary school day trip we took to Heathrow Airport. Two planes got photographed. The TriStar (lots of 'em), and Concorde, which was coming in to land..... Quote
scruffythefirst Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I always remember whever I was at my grans in east acton we would all troop outside at the oppointed time (even if it was in the middle of dinner) to watch concorde coming in Quote
Blatman Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 My route home from work is under the flightpath on the A4. When I'm on early's, I would always get overflown by Concorde on my ride home. It always made me smile, and dream...... Quote
Martin Keene Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Went to see Party in the Park at Hyde Park one year. Lots of planes about going into / out of Heathrow and nobody took the blindest bit of notice... then Concorde flew over and more people were looking in the sky than at the stage... gives a sense of pride about being a brit (even though the french did help a little bit! ) Quote
peterg Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Blimey....Roz Prior Top Lady driver and cute too - she used to live in Banstead, Surrey and I often drove past her house en route to my 'then' girlfriend's place. Saw her a few times at Blackbushe I'm hoping to take the missus to Santa Pod this coming weekend as she's never seen Top Fuel dragsters 'live' yet Quote
