studbuckle Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Well you can add 'Maverick of lard' on Saturday afternoon. Will try to get straight to paddock with full load on for a laugh and then do the normal weigh in after we've unpacked What's your eta Andy? Quote
Ian Podmore Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Is there going to be a prize for the lardiest SS car? If so count mine in (not me obvoiusly...) for the lardiest class A car! 650kg at last count, but I have hoovered the carpets since. Quote
Persil Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Having read all 17 pages I think you should all sit back and take a pill.. We all love our westfields and come here to share our love and expertise and intrest in all things Westyish. But the witch hunt that i have seen on these threads tbh is just down right rude.. Unhappy someone might have a faster/lighter car than you? Take it to scooby.net Grats on building a top motor Conny and hope you get many miles of pleasure out of it (regardless wether it weighs 300kg or 700kg) Persil Quote
Blatman Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 That's more like it. A set up sheet that's not based on guesswork or "I reckon". If my calcs are right, that comes in at under 500Kg's by a kilo or two. In which case, that's really well done Anyone wanna buy a 240bhp Atmo Cosworth engine? Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Anyone wanna buy a 240bhp Atmo Cosworth engine? No thanks too slow Quote
Westfieldman Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Anyone wanna buy a 240bhp Atmo Cosworth engine? Too heavy even for a WRC, they use Duratecs in the Fords. Quote
Glen H Posted June 18, 2004 Author Posted June 18, 2004 [quote I also had a full laser susupension geometry set up ( Camber & toe in etc), although not cheap ( £125 +vat, took about 3 hours) this in my opinion was worth every penny, the car was twitchy when turning right and stiffer turning left than it was turning right, the laser equipment verified this , showing the the rear nearside wheel was toe-ing quiet a lot ( about 1 degree) Adjustments made there and then to correct this and other minor mis-alignments, most of the journey home was motorway, however on the short bit of back roads I did hit, the car felt fantastic and much more settled giving huge bags of confidence and the biggest smile Its very suprising how such minor adjustments of 1 degree or less per wheel can have. ] Power / weight isn't the only way of making a car faster Quote
juansolo Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Anyone wanna buy a 240bhp Atmo Cosworth engine? A spare would be nice. 50p and a conker? Quote
Blatman Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Not a bad opening bid, but I'm hoping for a little more, to be honest. At least it's a proper Cossie though Quote
Westfieldman Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 At least it's a proper Cossie though So it's the extra heavy one then Quote
Blatman Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 I'll take a slight weight penalty for a steel crank and rods that'll rev to 9000 and produce in excess of 300bhp reliably, yes.... Maybe I'll keep it, but fit a Millington Diamond block. Class F here we come.... Quote
conibear Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 That's more like it. A set up sheet that's not based on guesswork or "I reckon". I have always had this info Blatman, if you do a search in the Zetec thread you kindly reminded me of the other night, it will state in there that I could not scan my data to post on the thread. It also suggested that if someone was willing to recieve it by fax and post it for me I would be obliged, but unfortunately no one was interested. I even PM one of the doubters on that thread requesting I fax this data to them so they could comment, but he dismissed that instintly. This is not a criticism of anyone but purely fact. I have never wished it to come across as one upmanship or showing off, I was of course proud of being an early Duratec installation and delighted with the performance. I wanted to share my experiences with like minded people who I thought would be interested, but to my surprise it's obviously come across the wrong way which has caused many to criticise and question my experiences and knowledge. This has been a lesson to me. As stated I still believe my car is heavier than that data shows, so I do intend time permitting to weigh it and post it and yes if possible would meet some of you to do a group witness weigh in. juansolo Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 At least it's a proper Cossie though Hence my generous opening bid Quote
Blatman Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 I wanted to share my experiences with like minded people who I thought would be interested, but to my surprise it's obviously come across the wrong way which has caused many to criticise and question my experiences and knowledge. This has been a lesson to me. I must've missed the bit where you asked for fax/scanning help. I would have been happy to oblige. I think we have all suffered a bit (or a lot! ) from the usual bane of internet bulletin boards, which is that of interpretation. On review, the thread can be seen as something of a witch hunt, which again, it most definitely was not. We were merely seeking answers to how you had managed what on the face of it seemed to be a pretty spectacular weight achievement. It is extremely unusual for Nick M, Harv and myself to become embroiled in such a lenghty, and what reads as a fairly petty thread, so believe me when I say that at no time did we bear any particular malice or harbour any negative feelings about you or your car. We were (and still are) keen to learn precicely how the weight was achieved, so that we can try to apply any relevant technologies to our cars, and of course, forward Westfield modifications for all, should you be willing to share any secrets with us. To be honest, if you decide to say b*****k* to it, I wouldn't be at all surprised. Anyway, let me say again, congrats on making such an excellent weight with the car. I hope our next lively debate gets off to a better start! Juan It's not purple though is it... It could be though, although you'll need to add about 3 grand to your opening bid, to cover paint and labour costs Quote
