Jaime Ward Posted Saturday at 09:40 Posted Saturday at 09:40 Hi everyone, This is my first time posting on these forums, but I've done loads of searching and reading and found heaps of good info! I have a SEiW with a V8 bonnet and a few days I saw on a FB post about how the scoop is a little wonky and now that I've seen it, I can't un-see it!! I work with composites, and would like to eventually like to make all new carbon panels for my car, starting with the bonnet. But of course I now don't want to go through the effort of making a mould from my current bonnet and then a new bonnet for it to also be wonky. Has anyone tried to fix their scoops? Or done any design work to have the scoop properly placed? I'd ideally like to find either a good mould or some cad files that I can make a new part with. Very much looking forward to getting my car out to some trackdays in the summer!!! Specs - Mazda 1.8L turbo, 370BHP (full boost), anti-lag, 10.5 inch rears. Next big upgrade - Quaife sequential box Thanks Jaime (Devon/Barbados) 2 Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted Saturday at 10:21 Posted Saturday at 10:21 Welcome! Oh dear! 😀 just be aware while you’re contemplating this rabbit hole, that the bonnet is one of the straighter parts on the car, the tub is way, way worse, and that as you correct one, you may end up focusing on the next item! it’s a legacy of the days when the bodywork was designed by hand, on paper, then full scale clay bucks produced, from which the original moulds were taken. The cars are not symmetrical side to side, down the vehicles centerline. The only people I’m aware of that might have cad files for bodywork suitable for making moulds from, outside the factory are businesses like the now defunct Mofast. I know a few owners have reproduced some or possibly all the bodywork in CAD over the years, but I don’t know if they’ve done so accurately enough for body parts. Most of the pictures I’ve seen have been more related to models for CFD. Quote

It is, just has a matt black wrap on it which I'm not a fan of. I quite like the red in Kev's youtube videos so will remove the wrap at some stage in the near future. Does the asymmetry stem from the chassis or is it just down to the bodywork? Would like to at least make it a little straighter than it currently is. And @Rednop1 are any of the carbon panels on the car made by you? Cheers Quote

Would like to at least make it a little straighter than it currently is. it’s the bodywork, not chassis. As above, it’s down to how the first moulds were created from clay bucks on the very first series of grip bodywork way back in the eighties. A complication, has been the Westfield factory always wanting to ensure as much compatibility as possible between all the chassis versions and all the bodywork variations. (Though there are one or two exceptions). Quote

kenton Posted Sunday at 13:02 Posted Sunday at 13:02 To be honest most people don't notice and you definitely can't see anything asymmetrical from behind the wheel 1 Quote

Flying Carrot Steve Posted Sunday at 13:27 Posted Sunday at 13:27 I saw that FB post so went and checked mine in the garage. I can't see anything out of line at all tbh, all spot on on my car. 3 Quote
