Going on a road trip holiday to the south of France and returning to the Spa 24H race before heading home in June and wanted to check with others who've made trips to the continent before if they brought spare canisters of fuel with them?  I was planning on a 10L metal canister, filling it up at the first French petrol station after the ferry and then using that as a backup in case I am in between fuel stations, but trying to find out what the regulations are on fuel carriage seems to be impossible.  All the crossing companies helpfully tell you whether *they* allow canisters on board or not, but not what the regulations are in France itself.

My range is 150 miles at best on a fuel tank, but with some spirited driving in the Alps, I suspect it will be more nearer 90 miles...

I’ve done a couple of these trips now and I used my fuel can once I think. 5ltrs got me out of trouble. I based the driving on aim to fill up every 100 miles. One day I saw nearly 150! Plenty of garages about, you should be ok enjoy 😊

As above, you'll be fine. Just use your Satnav to find fuel. Having done 6 Euroblats with 4 cars (3 on the 1st one), we've usually carried at 5L fuel can between us but have never run out. @Stu Faulkner did need to use it to stop fuel surge during his Turbo era (he's grown out of that now).

We've never been questioned at any ferry crossing if the fuel can was empty or full.

I've seen a flat 5L fuel container (waiting for the buyer to send me a link for you), that fitted behind a seat (won't fit behind yours @Quinten as I suspect you run with it fully back.

Happy to have a chat about your Alps plans to share routes, passes, hotels, experience etc.

It's my son who's doing all the planning, and there will be 6 of us in a mix of cars.  The above is the current plan with each overnight stay extended to 2/3 days to also enjoy a little R&R between the stays.  I believe each leg between stays is about 6 hours driving maximum, taking some of France's most beautiful/scenic roads.

We've not visited that part of the Alps, hence will follow your trip with interest.

If you're a squad of 6 cars, I'd worry even less about running out of fuel etc.

Are the numbers 1-22, days? Good to plan no more than 6 hours each day. With stops etc, that will be plenty.

Ever since I'm a 2-V8 household, I've become subject to range anxieties ;).  Glad to hear it is mostly not needed to worry.

The numbers are stops.  The moon icon ones are stays.  Think the total nights is 16 nights, but 5 of those are in Spa.

I've travelled with S2000's on throttle bodies that visit the 9000 rpm redline regularly, Supercharged S2000 and Turbo'd Mazda and Ecoboost cars too.

You're likely to need a break, drink, leg stretch  before you empty the tank!  16 days will be a great trip!
