Freeloaders !

This has been mentioned by me before .

 

The amount of guests or old members using the forum on the daily for free . (Freeloaders)

 

You see the same names on the daily who are old members (sorn) coming to view the forum .

 

Have the admin and people incharge seriously looked into fully locking the forum down its very unfair to the paying members who pay year in year out  and with the increase in the fee's I feel the freeloader numbers will increase. 

 

This morning before I started writing this on the first page of the members online out of the 30 people Only 6 were paid up members which in my eyes is shocking so is it time that something should be done about it ??

@Rednop1 sorry to advise you're a week late. The Committee met on Saturday - You must have sadly missed this post- 

 

 

I don't know if this topic was discussed. @Rob Hunter - Club Secretary  will the minutes be available soon? If it wasn't covered, can we get this added for discussion?

You're a registered trader same as me, so you know how much we are paying for our memberships so I understand what you're saying and agree 90%. The other 10% of me thinks we need to allow *some* free forum use otherwise everyone will just move to facebook.

But surely Ian the the committee have spoken about the at some point because it's not the first time it's been mentioned?

I think the "free "forum is being abused by some who are not members and if you look everyday and the same none members are online viewing the forum  which in my eyes if you want to view the forum take advantage of the tech section or just want the enjoyment of reading thread's they need to GET THEIR WALLET OUT !

 

Because if we don't have as many paying members as possible the membership will just continue to get more expensive for the people that are fully paid up members and effectively things like the marquee at Malvern will disappear so let's get as many people paying to be a member.

I would just like to point out for clarification that non-members:

 

> Cannot post anything 

 

> Cannot see anything in WSCC Members Only Area

 

and the big one in particular:

 

> Cannot see anything in Tech Talk, FAQs, or Build Diaries, where the vast bulk of helpful knowledge is located

 

The last one definitely cut down on non-members benefitting unfairly.

And forced long old paying members to re-join and have to pay for information that they generated in the basis of being free for all.  And while probably is perfectly legal, the morality of having to keep paying in the future just to have access to your own build tread is really obscure. Sorry Scott our first interaction after re-joining is a rant... but I can't shake the feeling I had when I wanted to recover the shopping list for my MNR wishbones and I couldn't do so...

If we close everything off then I think it will mean we lose potential members.

 

A certain amount of free to view/participate surely encourages those who are in a mind to join, whereas if it is purely “pay up or f-off” then they are more likely to stick with FacePoop.

I think this forum has the balance perfectly right, forums where everything is behind a pay wall generally fail as everyone, as mentioned, goes to Facebook, I became a paid member as there was enough info to get me interested but enough locked behind paywall to get me intrigued. I'd imagine as far as attracting forum sponsors goes traffic is traffic, if forum is locked down the visits decrease reducing the marketability of the forum.

It's a hard balance. If we don't let non paying members see what a great forum this is, they won't be convinced to join.

 

If I'd not joined, I'd not have been invited to go to Le Mans in 2017 by @Greenstreak-Andy D and I've had the expense of a further 5 euroblats since then. I'd be minted, If I'd not become an Alp Addict 😉 These has cost slightly more than the meagre membership fee.

I totally agree with this, but there's no harm in reviewing the balance between paid and free forum areas.

 

Something that I think isn't made enough of is the fact that membership often pays for itself in insurance reductions as lots of insurance companies offer discounts for club members.

Do people buy a westfield then study the forum to see if they would like It then because a member? 

 

20 plus years ago when I purchased my first narrow westfield I brought the car from somebody my dad was doing abit of business with I hadn't even sat in the car and did I know what I was buying no !  when I went to collect the car he said ash the best thing you can do is join the wscc it's great fun you will make some great friends if you have a problem with the car they will help you out so I drove the car home and joined the wscc straight away and never really looked back but maybe I'm a little different to most people 🤔
