snowy892
Hi All, Unfortunately I had an accident yesterday, I will be speaking to the insurance company on Monday but just in case they ask and I have a choice, where should I send the car for repair? I'm in south norfolk I use Adrian Flux, they left me high and dry yesterday stating their accident office is closed till Monday, you have to sort your own breakdown recovery. Which I did and make my own way home. Regards Richard (Totally gutted)
Captain Colonial
Really sorry to see that, hopefully you’re okay and unhurt? How did it happen? Hard to see how much damage is there, but there’s a reasonable possibility that the front left of the frame has been damaged. It certainly wants looking at in detail. Not sure if Westfield Chesil do repairs or if some specialist company might be a better choice, but more knowledgeable members will soon be here. Hope you get it fixed quickly and get back on the road soon.
Mark (smokey mow)
Looking at your location you can’t be more than a a few miles from Siltech who would almost certainly be able to help you out with any chassis repairs. https://www.siltechracing.com 3
Steve20
As above talk to Siltech as they can do chassis repairs and these guys know what they are doing. Also close to Thetford.
Terry Everall
Siltech will sort it properly
Flying Carrot Steve
If Siltech no good it's not a million miles to Northampton Motorsport or MK Sportscars.
jeff oakley
Sorry to hear your news on this. I would say that from the pictures it is likely to need a chassis and body tub and with the price of parts from the new Westfield would more than likely write it off. Yes it can be repaired a front chassis section, wishbones etc and I am sure siltech will do that part great but body wise will be the killer for the insurance. I would take lots of pictures of everything and send to Westfield to price because I would be surprised if they do a front repair section and insurnace tends to go with the manufacturer pricing. The option then it to keep car and a lesser pay out get it repaired and you might get away with fitting flared side panels, but decide what you want and be prepared for a fight with the insurance assessor. dvd8n
My nephew wrapped his Caterham around some road furniture and wrote it off. He bought it back off the insurers at a bargain price, put a new chassis and some panels on it, and lost nothing but some time. D
snowy892
Thank you all for your comments so far. My fear is that it will be written off, but if I get it back and repair it will the value decrease dramatically? Also will the cost of insurance rise due to it being potentially cat 's' ? Stuart
Every sympathy been there. FYI a new chassis, tub, rear arch, one set rear wishbones & hub, one alloy wheel + rebuild labour at the factory cost £8,900 twenty years ago.
Rob Hunter - Club Secretary
Hope you're OK! As others have said, it's difficult to see the extent of the damage from the photos but Siltech are well respected for their chassis repairs if that is an economical route for you. Mole
I recently recommended Siltec to someone who crashed their Westy at a track day. He was from Leeds. He took the car to them and they turned it around, adding a completely new front end for a fair price. He was more than happy. I would speak with them...maybe they could do complete supply of wishbones etc etc.. and they are local to you.. Good luck
KevanP
Absolutely recommend Siltech, a friend of mine has had his done at Siltech following a coming together with some Armco. They done a lovely job. Were you at Snetterton Saturday by any chance? A group of us from Essex and north Kent were there also.
jeff oakley
I just did a quick calculation on body work that I can see is damaged and that is now £5k alone. Sadly I think this will be written off as they will value against similar or whatever your agreed value is. If you go to someone like Siltech who will sort out the mechanicals then being in Norfolk you might find a lotus specialist or boat builders who will do the fiberglass repairs then buying back and rebuilding is a good plan if you know everything else is good. I really feel for you but start getting information together to make sure they do not stiff you on valuation
