Richard (OldStager) Posted October 3, 2023 Author Posted October 3, 2023 An insider whom I know very well ( but won't name) works for Wirral Borough Council on the road safety team. He just informed me that the UK Gov wanted to roll this out UK wide, but due to the Welsh and now the Wirral public's view on the 20mph limit that plan is now likely to be scrapped. Quote

The welsh government do not have to discuss this petition until it has been available for its full term of 6 months or until the person who set it up finishes it. There has already been pressure put on the person who set it up to finish it early due to the massive numbers signing up. A counter petition was also started and will probably be discussed earlier and will be used by the senedd to justify the speed reductions. Mr Drakeford however is convinced he knows better and will use his majority to ignore the petition. Quote
Shelsley40 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago (edited) Just read stupid article stating that you’ll probably be dead if hit at 30 mph but at 20 mph you’ll be alive ; what utter tosh! If you are hit in the most vulnerable place, you can be dead at 5 mph. This seems to be a fairly commonly pushed myth by the Tax collecting modern highwaymen. I recall cameras being called ‘Speed cameras’; stick a different label on and call them ‘Safety cameras’ and enough of the ‘sheep’ among us bought it. It’s high time someone blew this open for what it largely is - Tax collection! Edited 23 hours ago by Shelsley40 Intro added Quote
DamperMan Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago My parents live in wales. it’s a sore point and brings on a bout of Tourette’s with them. The Welsh parliament hate motorists. But the 20 limit is largely ignored… Speed limits don’t appear based on a point system any more… more of who lives in the village and complained to get them changed. Or speed limits extended out of villages in the name of safety but really so planning permission for more homes can be sought. I was caught in an oxfordshire village doing 26 in a 20. To be honest I didn’t know it was a 20, or when it had changed… never noticed. But there’s no school, the pavements are the other side of grass 10 foot grass verges. It’s just a village with a wide street in the centre probably for herding sheep. The cop with a hair drier stopped me and gave me a yellow slip.. Also apologised and said it was up to the CPS if to take action. I joked I go though at 25 on my push bike! … I waited 6 months and I never got a fine through the post, but ever letter though the door had me worrying. The Week after I was caught my cycling club and I went though the village and some old git was stood on the side of the road waving his arms and shouting slow down it’s a 20… he clearly didn’t know speed limits don’t apply to bicycles… and I bet he was the one who’d bombarded the council/ highways/ gustapo into making it a 20 for no good reason.
