Raising money for 'Young Lives vs Cancer'

Apologies if this isn't within the WSCC rules and if so I will remove post.

On the 29th July I will be walking 35 km alongside 8 other work colleagues to raise money and awareness for 'Young Lives vs Cancer' after a work colleague (Paul) in 2021 received the devastating news that his Daughter Lily had been diagnosed with a type of brain tumour that had not been seen before which caused the specialists concerns on the best way to treat her.

They opted for the fact she is young (14 at the time) and otherwise fit and healthy so they hit her hard with radiotherapy and chemotherapy after the tumour had been surgically removed.

Fortunately she seems to be on the mend which is a miracle with what she has been through including being placed in an induced coma during her treatment to lessen the impact as some organs had started to shut down and then receiving therapy to help her speech as this had been impacted also.

I feel slightly awkward posting this here along with my donation page link mainly due to the fact I've not met any members face to face for along time and the majority I've never met at all.

But I think we can all agree it's a worthwhile charity that I hope myself or anyone else for that matter will never need to use.

Thank you for taking the to time to read this.

Kind regards Glen

@Alex Gaskin, @RobH72 and @Richard (OldStager) thank you so much for the generous donations,  this means alot especially from people I've never met face to face!

Lily does seem to be an absolute inspiration. Her Dad says she's getting stronger by the day and is spending longer at school each day before becoming to tired but fingers crossed she is heading in the right direction.

Thank you again!

Thanks @Tricky, just seen the donation and thank you so much!

I've just been chatting to Paul and Lily has another MRI tomorrow but these are routine to monitor her progress.

Kind regards Glen

Thank you again!

A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Cancer, whilst it is one of the more 'mild' ones, for a group of friends all around 21/22 years old, it's really made all of my friends think about things for once. Because of this, cancer is constantly on my mind at the moment, so I thought that I should give a little. My friend has just started his treatment, and all seems to be going well at the moment, so I'm hoping things go well for Lily as well!

Sorry to hear this....its one thing that we will all be effected by it seems and not just when your older as we always assume!

Hope your friend sticks 2 fingers up at it and makes a healthy recovery.

Most things don't bother me but cancer.........

Take it easy and thanks again for the donation.

I'm at £170 now.

I am very intertwined with this dreadful thing, all but one of my family have been lost to it, the worst being my father at a far too young 29. So anyone who supports is doing a fantastic thing, and lets all get Glen well over his target please 🤞

So sorry to hear this Richard.

It's a cruel thing!

I'm happy for the forum to be used by paid up members to publicize  a personal good cause, provided it isn't done in a semi-commercial way, so go for it and good luck.

Thanks for confirming.

No commercial or personal financial gains to be made by this apart from blisters on the feet I'd imagine.

Hopefully I can raise alot more yet and up my £300 target for a great cause and one young girl who deserves it all now. 🤞
