Another Newbie !!

Hi,

Just finding my way round the forums for ideas and help with hopefully buying a Westfield this year?

I chatted to a Wscc member at the Stoneleigh Kitcar Show on the Sunday (very helpful too) about the best ideas to purchase a car without problems (emissions/IVA/engine & parts/legal!!).

The "Westfields for Sale" here he mentioned as a good idea but I had already found Toybox Specialists with good reviews? also not too far away either :).

Any views on Toybox if I don't find anything suitable here?

I'm looking for a secure garage or space locally and making enquires (could of found someone already?) as I have my motorcycles, mountain bikes...and everything in ours!!!

I love motorcycles but hoping I can get something to match on four wheels & take my partner along (although the bike frightened her big time..I was careful! lol).

I'm sure I have the right idea after seeing the kitcars I saw at the show, it's been on my mind for at least three years with visits to the Kitcar Show for a number of years too!

The idea of using a Westfield in France on good quiet roads with the sun out will be excellent I'm sure...using a Honda Fireblade twice was far more fun than travelling by bicycle, specially now my knees aren't so good years later!

Last question..sorry?? I see there is a local meeting at the Falcon Pub in Hatton, Warwickshire...what happens at meet, is it good for new members and when you turn up in a Turbo Diesel with questions??

Grateful of any advice, thanks.

Welcome! I did the same. Sold some bikes and built a car. The other half enjoys going in the car much more than on the back of the bike :)

Welcome from South Derbyshire (about 2 miles from Toybox in fact!).

I know loads of people that have come the "bikes to kit" route. They are about the only thing that will give you the thrill of a bike on 4 wheels.

Toybox are great, Andrew and Dale are nice guys and won't pressure you into a sale. You do pay a premium, but the cars are cosmetically as close to new as you will find.

As for the Falcon meet, yes of course you can take a daily driver (even a diesel 😂) to a meet, in fact its quite common if the weather is bad.

@Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO is your local AO, he is a genuinely lovely guy and a font of Westfield knowledge! You also have a lot of active members in your area that I'm sure will assist and advise you in your search 👍

Welcome. @Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO

will help you regards the meets at the Falcon. Really nice group of people but watch out for @aegas he is a complete nutter 😀

Bought mine from ToyBox. No problems at all. Would recommend. Normally has a variety of cars to sit in which enables you to make the right decision even if he doesn’t have the one you want.
Keep looking. It will be the best thing you will ever buy. Changed my life.

Thanks for your replies so soon and also the details for the local AO. I’m sure I will come across a few people soon with a meeting coming up this month if my other half doesn’t see I have disappeared..

Not sure you folks have a secret handshake at these meetings :) ?

At this time of the year, the bike could be transport too for getting out as well as my daily drive?…but no ideas of using the engine in a project please haha 😂.
Any advice would always be useful but I’m taking a shortcut to buy a complete car as building would be impossible with no space here…always like fettling though (is that the word?).

Cotswold area here is perfect for those ride outs but the car too be brilliant especially when fuel prices drop! 😎.

@Iplodiusyou will be met with open arms at the Falcon next Thursday, I’m quite sure if the weather plays ball there will be plenty of cars and owners there to talk and listen to, there’s a wide range of cars from old pre-lit to new FW’s from toybox and supercharged flying machines!! It’s just an informal tyre kicking social gathering, just make sure you make yourself known and you’ll be introduced to the crowd . @AndrewBClarkewhy am I a nutter 🤪 we’re more sane than you country bumpkin’s 😘

Hi @Iplodius, you will be welcome at the Falcon whatever the mode of transport (shamefully I will be in a turbo diesel!). Sue and I are ex-bikers too so know where you are coming from and can confirm that a Westfield is a great replacement. Hope to see you on Thursday 19th at the Falcon, from around 7.30pm.

Also, thanks to @RobH72 and @AndrewBClarke for the kind words too.

Thanks Martyn & Aeg…

I’m looking forward to meeting a few people and seeing some of these cars after seeing some fab kit cars at the Stoneleigh show!

Like that about country bumpkins..I was in Warwick once! 😂

Anyone with a S2000 Westfield?..I have seen someone on here…somewhere?!

I looked at buying the Honda once (and a turbo MX5!) but that engine revving up to 9000rpm be far more fun in a car weighing 550/600kgs😊.

Catch you people at the Falcon..even the crazy ones lol..

@RobH72 that mentioned the Falcon Meet, earlier has a Mega S2000, but if you can make it to the pre-run meet ups in the Peak District, there are sometimes 5 or 6 Mega S2000's and often one or two Mega S2000S's (The supercharged version of the Westfield S2000).

@Iplodius there's quite a few of us just north of you as @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairmansays.

If there are no Peak District runs, we often meet up at Curborough and sometimes we tag onto other car meets (like the Coleshill Auto Breakfast Meet that you can find on Facebook).

I often struggle to get to the evening meets (normally taking my lad to Cadets!) but more than happy for you to come along to one of our weekend meets (normally posted on the events page on the Forum) and give you a spin 👍

Yesterday at Curborough we had 4 Westfields (a xflow, a zetec on ITB's, a supercharged Zetec and my S2000) plus a Yamaha R1 engined MNR.

Some excellent red cars I see Derbyshire way…all of them would look fine next to my Honda Fireblade 954 in Red/black!

My garage is now looking less cluttered but I just don’t have enough room for a Westfield, need to make enquires for a long term storage solution as this is my only real problem, what does everyone else do with their vehicles? Secure storage runs from around £45 a week..any cheaper ideas?

I was reading about Curborough on the pages here and see you people are not far away including Coleshill for Breakfast!

There are some fab places down here if you want good food and coffee, my recommendation would be Cotswold Gin cafe and shop with plenty of parking most days but idea to sit in the sun with a gin and tonic :)
The S2000 would be ideal, like to chat and look over the build…so many questions lol…a spin?

Thanks guys…this forum does create some interest. Have a good week.

One of our regular attendees at the Falcon has a S2000, also in red, he may be there on Thursday. There are others that turn up occasionally.
