TAFKARM Posted July 6, 2022 Author Posted July 6, 2022 Just over 2 weeks to go until the next outing. Again, super busy at work (does anyone want to buy some EV chargers for workplace or fleet?) so not had much time to think about this one. Oulton Park is next up - testing on Friday 22nd and racing on Saturday 23rd. Using a different car this time but same team running it. Its a proven "almost top ten" finisher with the other driver so I can't use that as an excuse. I'm feeling fairly relaxed - I know Oulton pretty well and am usually one of the quicker MX5 drivers on trackdays at least. If I can be <5s a lap off the front runners, I'll call that a win. Island and Druids, which are very fast are the places I tend to make up time vs the trackdayers, so it's going to be pretty interesting / scary as I expect all of the racers to be fast through there. Slight concerns: I've still not done a proper race start so be interesting to see how that pans out. The track is a lot narrower with much much less run off than Silverstone, so I'm not expecting 10 overtakes this time. There might be a WSCC guest driver too.... 1 Quote
TAFKARM Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 I found the qualifying footage from Silverstone... 1 Quote
Andrew Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 A bit too much like racing for qually maybe? (for good times) Your car did look to be down on power before the rattly ending. 🤔 Quote

Not to much of a secret but I'm joining russ in the same team for my first race. I'm in the car Russ used at Silverstone so hopefully all good from a mechanical point not with a new heart. Testing on the Friday as well to get use to being around other cars. Let's see what happens. 2 Quote
Mole Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Good luck and have fun Simon..and I hope there are not team orders!! 1 Quote

TAFKARM Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 Testing on Friday so heading off to the circuit in under 24 hours.... I'm getting pretty excited now. Not really nervous like I was before the first meeting. I put this down to a lack of sleep and misplaced confidence. Seriously though, having some experience of how the race meetings run and knowing where to be and when really sets the mind at ease and one less thing to worry about. Weather looks interesting - ideally it would be consistent across testing and race day, but looks like we will have a fair bit of rain on Friday, with some rain and 26 degrees on Saturday, so hot and humid with luck of the draw as to track conditions. Hopefully we'll call it right else we'll end up running a dry set up in the wet. To be fair, I'm pretty confident in the wet on track days so hopefully this translates to a slippery Oulton with 26 other lunatics. Once thing I didn't get last time was any actual race starts, which is frustrating. I had a few practice starts at the club track day off the line at Blyton and have the theory nailed at least. In practice, on the day, we'll see. With @Simon Waterfall Syman84 sprinting experience I fully expect him to demolish me off the line. Fingers crossed for some close, clean racing (and no rapid unscheduled engine disassembly this time) 4 Quote

To be honest, apart from seeing our names in lights, there wont be much footage unless we are top 10! Quote
TAFKARM Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Testing is a bit wet, but we’re smiling 1 Quote
Andrew Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 It's looking dry for tomorrow. What's your race numbers for the races? Quote
