Julie's Battle of the Odo's 2022

Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative

Recommended Posts

Julie’s Battle of the Odo’s competition is back for another year, and if you need an excuse to drive your Westfield, here is one - not that you should need an excuse, of course.

The MOT certificate records an odometer reading.  This competition is looking for the member who has the biggest mileage difference between their Westfield’s 2021 and 2022 MOT certificate odometer readings. In my opinion getting the ‘Westfield’ miles in makes you a winner anyway.

The prize for first place is £50 worth of vouchers to spend at the Westfield Factory Parts Department and for this year only they will also receive the Chris Smith award.

Second and third place will get you £10 and £5, respectively, off your membership renewal in WSCC for next year.

What are you waiting for? Get driving!

THE BORING BITS

• The mileage must be in a Westfield.

• The competition is open to WSCC members only, not the Committee or Area Organisers.

• The closing date is midnight 8th November 2022.

• Email your mileage to peak@wscc.co.uk with a copy of your MOT certificate attached.

• The judge’s decision is final.

• You must agree to your entry being published in Westfield World magazine and online in the WSCC forum.

• Prizes must be redeemed within 12 months, are non-transferable and no substitute prize or cash equivalent will be offered.

• If you have won first place in this competition before you cannot enter it again.

• The winner this year will receive the Chris Smith Award.

Yesterday was MOT day for me and here are my figures

Annual mileage 4230 miles

Total mileage 63116 miles

If you find this interesting please have a think about entering this competition, it's a bit of light hearted entertainment with a potential prize for you at the end.

It is open to members only, so as an AO or a committee member you cannot enter, that's me out then but you can😀so please do.

Wow, and I thought I did some big mileage! That's some serious commitment to the Westfield cause, bravo 👏

It'll be 3 years before my first MOT is due @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative . Any thoughts about an alternative "proof" of mileage for these circumstances? In my case I started the year (2nd March) at first registration with zero miles on the clock, but for the end of the year all I can think of at the moment is to take a photo of the mileage on the speedo.

I'm actually surprised it's that low given the amount you are out in it! 😳

Hmm, I reckon I'm up to about 28000 miles across two Westfields since the Honda was registered in 2015. Given the lockdowns in the middle, not too bad!

@BobMet you are not the first to ask that question and I have yet to come up with a fair way of judging the mileage of new builds, so for now I am very sorry to say that you have to wait until year 4 before you can enter the competition.

I did feel for @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO when he asked me the same a few years ago and then just as it was time for his first MOT he became an AO and couldn't enter.

Don't be scared in November (when the competition closes) to let us know your mileage, it will be interesting and you never know!

Might increase the mileage limit on my policy. 😊

Mot on 08.05.2022. 218 miles since the last mot in 2018.

On second thoughts 3,000 might be enough. 🤔

Is there an award for the least miles?

  • 1 month later...

I did just over 7000 miles last year to Nov but as the car was newly registered so not Mot. Went outmost sunny evenings in the Summer around Snowdonia on a 60 mile loop

I wonder what the highest mileage Westy is at? I know @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative  is well above mine currently at 30k 😎

Just thinking of the roads there and wouldn't it be good to have to a way of knowing the quality of the miles that we have all done too.

I just ran the figures and if I matched 4230 miles per year it would cost me around £2280 a year in super unleaded at current prices, and that is based on my average MPG of 16! I think I might be a challenger for the least miles covered at the moment, although I did just do a 28 mile blast round the Matlock, Chatsworth, Curbar route that I like to do of an evening and used half a tank (spirited driving so somewhere around 8MPG).
