McFrancis
Brad, I'm going to miss this again as I'm on holiday. Gutted. Hopefully next year. Good luck with the event. Chris
BigSkyBrad
We were out yesterday testing the route - plenty of new roads from previous years, some previous in reverse, and a good handful that I've not been on before. We came across a couple of road closures - ventured into them and came out the other end, so I'm guessing they were finished and hadn't taken the signs down. 197 miles all-up, technical in the morning, and opening up and sweeping in the afternoon. More loops and bi-directional, so you'll bump into more of the clan through the day (hopefully not literally). Now the route is proved, I've started on the route book. For those who have not been on the run before, there is no map-reading – well, not until you get lost and have to open the emergency envelope with has a map of the area with waypoints to get back on track, and the destination. The whole route is navigated using ‘tulips’, like what the old-school rally cars used before pace-notes (and still use for the touring sections between stages). On the test run, we tried a free android tripmeter app, which proved to be quite stable and accurate, and also showed our car's tripmeter to be on-par - but not all cars are accurate, so I recommend this app. However, with the screen lit all the time, the phone didn't last the full route, so you'll need ciggie charger.
BigSkyBrad
Three weekends away. The route books have been printed, and in wild optimism I'm made up plenty for on the day - anymore cars to join the fray? As previously mentioned, unless someone comes up with some other runs, this is looking to be the only McWesty run for the rest of the year - so, come along and justify your car's existence. Just south of the border (Cumbria, Northumberland etc) isn't that far away to be up for the 9am gathering at Cairn Lodge Services - a long day for sure, but some good roads and fun will make it worthwhile.
BigSkyBrad
Out this afternoon to check that the roadworks (closed roads) on the route were finished. Weather forecast for next weekend is really good, especially Saturday for the run. See you the start, 9am at Cairn Lodge Services, M74!
Gary Taylor
Sorry Brad I’m not going to make this weekend, need to get brakes done and playing catch up after my holiday. Also Steve’s got Covid so he’s highly unlikely to be there. Hope you have a good day and we can catch up soon cheers Gary
Buckles23
Hey Brad Sorry for the short notice but would love to come along tomorrow as a day tripper. Hope that’s all ok and look forward to seeing everyone. Will bring the Drone and camera to get some footage of the day. Thanks Jamie and Joe

AlanHodge
13 minutes ago, Richard (OldStager) said: Not driving it up Alan ?. 😂😂😂😂 Helen not keen on getting in Westy to start with. If I’d have said we were driving up and back as well as doing mystery tour she would definitely have been on her Lakes camping weekend what she’s missing instead 😀😀
Davep1
We have done the last two of Brad and Diane's runs, and can say they are thoroughly enjoyable - a long day, but at your own pace, brilliant quiet roads, and a great bunch of likeminded folk. Still not too late to come up for this one, when next will we get weather like this!! (I have to make a pathetic excuse that this summer my Westy is out of action, preparing for a full winter restoration, so sadly tomorrow we will be in some nondescript German thing...) Go on, join us, you know you want to!! Dave and Jenni. 1

BigSkyBrad
@judder @Buckles23 That's cool, we thought that might be the case, the sun was relentless, and most Scots are made of chocolate above 20 deg! 😜 1
AlanHodge
Back home in sunny Preston. Car washed and the gooey whatever it was jet washed off car and trailer ! Really good to catch up with you all you guys from North of the border again. Special thanks to Brad & Diane for organising a brilliant event again, even though we did cheat again slightly. Thanks again all great event, great company and great weekend. Cheers guys 🍻🍻
Davep1
Once again, a good days route challenge from Brad and Diane over a rural area of the borders, with surprisingly little traffic. All the hours (days) of preparation and professional route cards were much appreciated. Well done to Brian, who showed us all how navigate properly, despite being solo in the V8!
