A return to RC racing

Recommended Posts

Just about to head out to this weeks racing meet. Quick update from last week though... qualified 4th in the B and then was leading it for 300 seconds before being overtaken on the penultimate corner of the race to finish 2nd. Definite improvement though and my best result by a mile.

Also, my new shell has just been finished for me 😍 Picking it up tonight...

I have also been looking at a number of websites looking to get a RC toy.

I first got my mardave marauder had that for a number of years. Then built a electric boat, but it didn’t hit the spot like a car did, then got a HPI touring car which kept snapping the drive shafts after about 2-4 runs.

After a few years I had ago with RC helicopters, enjoyed it but aways fear of it falling out of the sky like a brick.

I have to say that Im enjoying my Sundays racing now, second visit last Sunday and although I had two major breakages, front plastic bulk head snapped (replaced with stronger one) and then rear ended at full speed whilst I was stationary on the start line, smashed a rear wish bone, fortunately I managed to find spares to keep me racing. I only went and won my final!

Seems the odd tweak here and there made a big difference to the handling. The only downside is an early morning start on a day off. 😞

A lot depends on what you are going to use the car for Arma are good for bashing around parks and such, but if you want to go racing at a club then the best bet is to find your local club and go see what they race. Indoors GT12 is very popular Andy Malone and myself have them. but they are strictly indoor carpet racers only.

Good model shops are MB Models, Modelsport, and Schumacher racing.

My plan was just to go bashing around a BMX track or playing fields. Not too sure they are any clubs near me, but would consider both options( she don’t need to know😬).

I find the carpet racing at a club great fun and reasonable too.

Club members have helped out with replacement parts after Oscar had a bit of a moment when his car flew off track into the gym wall!!

Off road racing would be good if there was a club round here.

I may bump into you at Crewe at some point in the future @Greenstreak-Andy D. Considering taking my GT12 there for a race night to get some experience away from Wirral as I'm considering going to a national in March and don't want to have only experienced one type of carpet.

Last week went well...

My previous decent B final result meant I started qualifying in the higher (and less destruction derby style) heat which meant I got steady, clean racing and improvements all night to qualify 4th in the B final (with 2nd-4th separated by just 0.44 seconds!).

Then in the final I managed to battle up into third and keep it, and one point very close to taking 2nd but getting a little scrappy at the end and finishing 3 seconds back.

Very pleased and it feels like the consistency is starting to come back to my hands so will now start leaning a bit more into the nuances of the setup. Main challenge at the moment is my tyres are nearly done and everywhere seems to be out of stock. Managed to get the last set from Zen Racing on Friday but may have to run that single set down rather than alternating two sets each race unless I can find some more.

New body shell looks even bette run person too! Going to get some scrim tape on it to protect it and cut the posts/arches tomorrow ready for Tuesday.

We had a very competitive B final on friday1541441688_Screenshot_20220123-1911542.thumb.png.5d5cbdbf89033745990032dbe609484a.png

That’s close racing!

The Crewe track is longer with laps typically about 12 sec (or they are just driving much slower).
