Jon Murray Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Check out my Avatar! I could be totally wrong, but I seem to remember a couple of years ago that Westfield were looking into the LS1 at one stage - whether thery still are is anyone's guess It's an all alloy V8 that will fit, being smaller across the banks and not as tall + reasonably plentiful if imported from the US or Oz.... check out this link for info.. click here Jon Quote
hilux Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Ahem `Classic` engines never die. `A` series still available, VX XE not available for years but still going strong as will the venerable Rover V8 IMO of course Quote

higgsti Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 sorry ive had a midlife crisis i bought the subaru sti7 because £for £ it will outperform most tin tops for the money all fast sports type cars have a certain muppet following golfs, astra ,xr3etc.I HAVE NOW SEEN THE LIGHT AND BOUGHT A REAL SPORTS CAR.but westfield are already using audi turbo engines and as i say the sti engine already has 265bhp without any mods wat so ever can you get this out of your rover engine in basic trim i dont think so .£750 the gets you an upgraded ecu which without engine work gives 330 bhp and that dosnt even need different induction .please tll me what this would cost on the rover.pushing them out to tvr spec makes them a bit un reliable ive had a tvr nothing but trouble and nearly bought a t350 before the westy:p Quote
S13RUM Posted February 14, 2004 Author Posted February 14, 2004 i have a t350. A ford transit T350 2.4TDI ELWB. Quote
zoso Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 But that would make a car that sounded like a, well... a V6! Fair point..... whatever is going in the new mustang will be in plentyfull supply, i hope they bring that over here.... PLEASE FORD PLEASE! Quote
markcoopers Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Ford have just revamped the 4.6 quad cam V8 that found it's way into Jensons and MG's SV and ZT. This engine is now 5.0L, and is called their "Crate" engine designed for the US, and presumably any other country's, aftermarket and kit builders. It was recently shown in various hot rods, drags and kits in the USA, in various states of tune. Considering that Ford are activly looking for customers for the engine.........you never know. Quote
chumley-warner Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 chevy ls1? Agree LS1...it is the route I will go when I feel I do not enough power later this year..... Quote
Mike H Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Ford have just revamped the 4.6 quad cam V8 that found it's way into Jensons and MG's SV and ZT. This engine is now 5.0L, and is called their "Crate" engine designed for the US, and presumably any other country's, aftermarket and kit builders. Superb value for money but it's a great big thing - I saw one at Autosport 2003 on a stand. It was fully dresses with power steering, aircon etc but it was still VERY big underneath all that. I don't know if you could get any DOHC V8 in a Westy (except that bike V8 but that's got no torque) LS1 would be my choice, but I wasn't too keen on being the guinea pig. It's almost exactly the same size as the Rover and all aluminium too. However I couldn't work out whether you could get an exhaust manifold to suit as I don't know where the ports would come in relation to the chassis. cheers Mike Quote
scruffythefirst Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Agree LS1...it is the route I will go when I feel I do not enough power later this year..... I'm sure soemone was working on a twin turbo rover v8 for a 7.... hmmmm Scruffy Quote
