Are these typical prices? They are when I go shopping..... Obviously engine prices will reflect their condition/state of tune/how much hassle you are prepared to deal with etc. I believe this was my quote on the other thread. The type ( gearbox from a Sierra can actually be obtained for free in the UK, in fact, if you are really cheeky, you can be given money to take the thing away. This usually entails taking the rest of the car with it though..... And yes, the Vauxhall 16v XE engine can be bought for 180 pounds (or less). However, most breakers yards will charge a lot more for an engine such as this. Its just a case of being in the right place, at the right time.... Quote

CharliePsycho Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 The nice thing about a VX engine (that is a 16 valve early vauxhall/opel enge - also known as 20XE), is you can take one straight from an Astra, rip all the horrible injection stuff off and put on a pair of webbers and have 180 bhp... you don't need to worry about cats or anything like that (that's catalytic converters, not the things that go bump under the wheels ) I had a very badly worn version that used to use equal parts oil/petrol that still produced 170bhp on the dyno, it started fine and sounded OK, I used to try and work out where the oil was dripping out untill I got the passenger wing mirror fixed and saw the smoke!!! If you get silly, even a mild set of cams will see over 200bhp... thats about £180... By the way, really good summary Blatters, Ok so the focus bit was a bit out, but it won't be in a couple of years when Ford catch up!! ...© Quote

Theres one in the older festers, which isnt realy a zetec, they call a trim level on the focus a Zetec even though it may not nescesarily be fitted with a zetec engine.... They keep bolting/unbolting/changing parts to keep them in emissions worthyness. Generally the zetecs used in westfeilds are from Escorts or Mondeos and are (if i remember correctly, which is open to debate) the Zetec E variety.... I'm trying to remember all this from the burton power catologue, it has a huge amount of info on all the ford engines mentioned here in the front of it... 2 cents added returning to bar... Quote

Blatmans Vx has throttle bodies mild cams and a descent exhaust system and that makes 185bhp think your figures may be a tad optimistic. Quote
