I use my phone to pay for everything now, contactless with as big a limit as I require. I’ve stopped carrying my wallet and not used cash or a card since March. The main problem for you guys will be if the accommodation opens up.

Man On The Clapham Omnibus
Midges appear later in the year don't they? Sadly it's been a while since we were stomping around the Highlands... 😕

Sadly it's been a while since we were stomping around the Highlands... 😕 It depends a bit on the spring climate. I've been up to Assynt (far NW) and West Coast down to Glencoe regularly. In Assynt up until late May/into June we've rarely seen a midge, but further South they will definitely be about (especially with this rather good Spring weather we've been having) But I'm sure our friends on here living up in Bonny Scotty Land will update us on the live Midge Situation! I use this sites to get an idea of how much protection required... https://www.smidgeup.com/midge-forecast/ 27 minutes ago, Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO said: Indeed. If you do camp - try and pitch where you get late evening/early morning sun & exposed to breeze/wind.
Alfascozzesi
As said above anything above 4mph and the midge will stay on the ground so as long as you don’t lie directly on the ground all good. A lot of people here have a large fan for when there is no wind. Direct/ strong Sun actually kills them.
Steve (sdh2903)
Mild winter = lots of midges. Theyve been out in force for a few weeks now the little feckers
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
Our favoured venue is Gairloch to stay and the surrounding area for walking. Once, when we were younger and fitter, we walked up Slioch at the far end (from Gairloch) of Loch Maree. It has been more than thirty years since we last made the trip though... I seem to recall the midges being especially vicious by Loch Maree, and also on Skye. Before we had children we'd go in late June and there were rarely midges about, but having to comply with school holidays took us there later in the year so a tanker of Jungle Formula went along too!
