My son is a journalist and has picked up on a localish story regarding an elderly man of 93 who has just unfortunately died in a care home. He was not ill and the care home had assumed he had died of old age. They are furious that his death certificate states coved 19 as the cause of death. When they queried it with the doctor, he had said that he had 'probably' contracted it...... If similar calls are being made all over the country, how on earth are any quality decisions for the best of the country ever going to be made. This is still being seen by some as an opportunity to point score against the Government in a lot of cases imho.. Mart. What's worse is that there will be a section of the "news" community who will spin this as some sort of deliberate or planned conspiracy. I don't think that is the case. Also, isn't that some sort of offence or is guessing the cause of death actually allowed? That doesn't seem right... Quote
Mighty Mart Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Hence my son's interest. There has been a considerable relaxing of death cert procedure I've been led to believe during this pandemic, but this is certainly not right in this particular case. Mart. 1 Quote
Tim Reid Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Light hearted comment... If anyone wants to look at statistics to predict what action should be taken take a look here... http://www.tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations So don't go buying oil for Norway or let Nicholas Cage make any more films otherwise people will drown or get hit by trains. 😂 Quote

As I understand it, if a death is recorded as Covid there is no automatic need for an autopsy. From memory when my Dad died in the care home, he had not been seen for over two weeks by the GP when he died. That automatically meant he had to have an autopsy. In the end after speaking with the Coroner that was deemed not necessary as he was on an end of life plan. Apparently with a Covid death no autopsy is required so as not to overwhelm the coroners department. In many cases the true cause is not covid but if a person has it and then succumbs to a heart failure covid is the cause, as I understand it. The other thing is after Shipman, it was a requirement for two Doctors to agree a cause of death before cremation was allowed, I also understand that has been relaxed at this moment 1 Quote

In her briefings she is using the words 'this is not a political decision' and 'we'd prefer to act together' just a little too much now. Umm, it's England that's behaving differently from the rest of the UK, mate .. Scotland, Wales and NI are all still in lockdown. BoJo's pals in industry are begging him to get their minions back to work! I'd say, as soon as I start seeing a full House of Commons, that's when people should return to work 😄 Quote

Then we could get back to the old school 'ya boo sucks' yelling quality politics we all enjoy. Seriously though there should be workplace covid safety assessments. Quote

I'm sure that will be delayed whilst they figure out what will be their new normal until we have an effective treatment or vaccine. 7 minutes ago, DonPeffers said: Seriously though there should be workplace covid safety assessments. The government have called for that already, stating that workplaces should be "Covid-19 secure" to allow staff to have confidence to return to work. 40 minutes ago, Robert (bombero) said: BoJo's pals in industry are begging him to get their minions back to work! That's a little unfair. I don't think anyone is eager to continue their state sponsored holiday for longer than absolutely necessary. Not everything is a government conspiracy... Quote
Arm Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 My old company have to work or they will go bust. They can and have implemented the safety requirements. Yes it was hard work for them. No they didn't blame the government. Yes they are taking is seriously Quote

Yes they are taking is seriously That's great that a decent company is looking out for the safety of its workers and the public, but possibly many won't. A well known budget airline wants, in July, to get back to cattle class flying with every seat filled and I wonder how safe that will be and what level of virus transmission. Also seems flyers will need to ask to use the toilet and pre-packaged snacks will be sold on board so masks off to start eating. Quote

Me, I'm going to avoid flying for as long as possible. My car mileage is going to go through the roof... 2 Quote
DonPeffers Posted May 12, 2020 Author Posted May 12, 2020 To clarify my like above.....I like the driving over crowded flying but do have a concern about crowded planes, full schedules, multiple country destinations and virus transmission. Quote

And if the airlines and public are seen to "abuse" the recommendations on a big enough scale, without self-policing from the airline industry, it will encourage one or two governments around the world, at least, to apply quarantine regulations to flyers. DonPeffers Posted May 12, 2020 Author Posted May 12, 2020 Just seen 'UK faces legal challenge as experts say French quarantine exemption must be offered to all EU citizens'. Quote
Blatman Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 I take on average about 40 flights a year so I'm definitely focused. If I am likely to be quarantined either outbound or inbound then that renders flying as a non starter. At the moment most of my abroad work is drive-able in a day (just) so that will the mode of transport. BUT I think I just saw a article saying Eurostar arrivals will be quarantined unless from France? How does that make any sense? If we all know that, no-one is going to say their journey started in Holland/Belgium/Germany etc, unless there are going to be border guards stamping passports... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52610594 The government later clarified that the rules would apply not just to air passengers, but also those arriving by other means of travel such as train or ferry.
