Hi. Apols for another CV question but I think this is important.  Sorry if already covered elsewhere.

Keeping politics out of the discussion and thus all friendly.

What should the UK be doing now and why ?

My assumption is there is currently no immunity package avail and if one is found it's 12 to 18 months away. So my assumption is we are going to be exposed and hopefully become immune.

Happy to be educated. What should we now be doing and how does that work?

Not opening a debate on what might have been done as we can't change that. Is there a view on where we go from here and why that might me successful.

Then it may be possible to review what was actually done if someone wants to open that thread topic.

Ok

WHO said a couple of days ago that there is no evidence that getting it makes you immune. The Dutch claim that this far in only 3% of their population have had it.

I suspect that younger people will be let back out to restart the economy but the old and vulnerable will have to remain in isolation until either they know a lot more about it or a vaccine arrives.

There do seem to be a few (media) reports of people being reinfected, but can’t say I’ve really seen much concrete information about it. Or indeed, what the severity has been like second time around.

My understanding is it can develop a new strain and you may not be immune to that one or the ones after that. Is that same scenario with flu? That's a question I don't know answer to.

yes both the flu and covid-19 will mutate and become slightly different, the reports are though that CV is mutating very slowly and a lot of analysis of the virus in the US is very similar to that in china.

Thats why the flu jab isn't 100% effective, it cannot cover all the strains and mutations

Media are only out to promote Doom.   My understanding is that like most viruses most of us develop immunity for a period of time after, not indefinitely.    But much like we say that once you've had chicken pox you've had it but actually a small % of people can catch it again.   Either because there immune system did not develop immunity after or there is enough of a difference in the second strain that your body did not recognize it.

How about this?

Stay at Home
Protect the NHS

Save Lives

Further advice will follow, based on more data.

Interview on bbc with some immunologist type suggested immunity post covid might be (big guess) 6-18 mths but immunity from vaccine could be somewhat longer.

Either way - this thing will not go away easily if at all...

... and beware the scientists being interviewed who qualified in Golf Course Management.

While I agree and follow that guidance I am one of the lucky people who’s income is unaffected by this (so far!).

I guess many others have generous retirement incomes and large gardens to use at their leisure making the confinement remarkably easy.

I’d hate to be a “gig economy” worker who is losing out because of this and living in a flat or HMO with 8 others running out of money and patience. They must be climbing the walls.

Edited to clarify my point!

I've tried same question elsewhere and in most cases find people can say what's be done wrong, either their own view or views from elsewhere but can't say what they would do or recommend for the future.  In particular on Facebook, yes I should know better, people can't respond looking forward and mostly can only give a political weighted answer.

I take pretty much everything coming out of the tv/radio/internet with a very large pinch of salt now more than ever!

That's it.   The Media don't reflect pubic opinion but largely influence it.   My wife tells me something each day about something she has become a world orthority in regarding CV19.    I just ask where the information has come from.   "they say that xxxx"   who are they? and whats there gain.       I can't watch the press conferences because its the same stupid questions asked with different words.     I'm sure with 20:20 vision things could have been done different but the reality is the only information they had was from china which simply lied/ covered up/useless, and   Italy is only a few weeks a head of us.

But that can't be the blanket message forever. The country needs to get back to work or there will be little point in surviving it as there will be mass unemployment as never seen before. And the government can't keep handing out cash like it is at present.

Absolutely, i watched the daily press conference yesterday for my sins. Journalism in this country really must be at its lowest ebb ever. The amount of repeated questions from the journo's was embarrassing.
