WANTED - MCT75 gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I'm looking for a MCT75 gearbox as it was installed on Westfields with Duratec engine (maybe on others, but I'm not sure). Better if with its own quick shift lever and propshaft.

Some photos of the parts (taken from another thread on this forum):

Gearbox with quick shift:

Propshaft:

I know those are not common, but if you know of or have one for sale just let me know please.

Thanks :)

Not tempted by a type 9 swap with decent ratios?

Sorry I don't understand... I'm actually looking for the gearbox not selling it. I've got already a Type9 which probably won't hold the abuse I'll be throwing at it in the future :)

I was under the impression the type 9 could be built by the likes of First Motion, BGH etc to be much stronger with much better ratios than the MT(C) 75 and much easier to get hold of.

Hence wondering why you couldn’t do a Type 9 swap.

I've got an MT75 gearbox in my shed that's in very good condition, what does the C mean?

It’s a special version of the box, comes with an interchangeable bell housing.

@Scottc88 was selling one a while back and I think @neptune may have mentioned that he had one too.

You can get the type 9 uprated to take around 260bhp (from memory) - your looking at £1200-£2000 though depending on spec and ratios.

Or fit a mk3 mx5 box. Takes the power and very good ratios

Seen their sale threads but both seem to have sold the gearbox. Hopefully something else will pop up at some point :)

I know there are a number of good boxes nowadays that are strong enough, but adapting them require some kind of work that I would like to avoid. I prefer something already done and tested.

The MCT75 just use T9 bellhousings that are available for the engine I want to use (VAG 1.8T 20v).

@Storvite was selling his barely used mx5 box

The top of the range type 9 based 'boxes made by Steve Perks have been put onto Cosworth Ford engines producing as much as 350 bhp, and corresponding torque, by some of the rally boys.

I've exchanged some messages with Steve, he's great and absolutely knows his stuff. He told me his gearboxes are being used in caterhams with 300lb/ft of torque without problems. At least now I know the Type9 can be quite strong with the right mods (and a good amount of money :) ).
