Peak District Run Out, Sun 27th Oct, Matlock 10.30

It’s chucked it down here all day and there’s been flash floods , I’m anticipating wet roads early on and as I’ve no weather gear or half doors that got me thinking..................

‘As the Manager is at her mums I had plenty of  garage time so it was a toss up between making some mudguards to limit the spray ,or disconnect the throttle bodies so my heavy foot didn’t kill me on the way there ....

find out what I did tomorrow ( if I make it ). 😱

Home now car washed and away, thanks Julie for organising all these great runs in the Peak District 👍

I did 115 miles round trip, there were some serious rivers running across some roads on my out and in runs.

What a great day !   Good job I made and fitted some mudguards there was plenty of water still around and it’s the first time I’ve been out in the wet .They worked a treat and with no doors not a drop got past them and it was very wet in places . Julie was out front and I bagged second spot ,It soon became apparent that if I held back a bit before a wet section and booted it my throttle bodies engaged and I could wheel spin in first ,second ,third and fourth . I never got to try it in fifth as by the time fourth had kicked in I was bearing down on the lead car .

For  anyone that’s not been .the Peak District meet is a must ,good  roads and amazing scenery make this a trip you have to experience. The fact that they always seem to find somewhere for an excellent lunch stop and a cake stop later just adds to the day .Its the second time I’ve been and can’t wait until  the third ,a big thanks to Julie and Glen (it is Glen isn’t it ,my memory is like his, whoever he may be )and the rest of you who were there for a great day out .

Wow what another great blast around the Peaks thanks Julie. We won't mention you got took the wrong road to Tissington village. Your secret is safe.  Honest 😇😇😇

There's also no need to mention that I started eating Andy's lunch by mistake.

Thanks for all the amazing runs you and Glen organise. It's been a great summer out in the Westy thanks to you and Glen.

That's it for me until April now.

Let the DIY begin.

What a laugh today has been, thank you to everyone who joined us, it has been challenging driving along the wet roads but when we found the dry bits I had my foot to the floor with this red stripe flying at me through my rear view mirror. What an awesome car that is and it sounds amazing when it follows you, 240bhp out of a 2 litre Zetec, amazing engineering from Dunnell.

Ahhh, calming down from the excitement, we met at Sainsburys. Steve, Andy, Andy and Becky, Paul and Margaret and at the last minute Rob came wizzing in. I did a quick hello and told him not to follow the yellow one or you will end up in Manchester (Paul and Margaret did the Northerly bit then headed off)

We drove up Curbar Gap towards Froggatt Edge which was looking lovely with the sun shining on it.

Steve just before the fun near Owler Bar, note the dry roads here

Waiting for everyone to catch up before turning left up onto the dry roads

We arrived at Homesford and Andy, in the absence of Trevor, photo bombed my shot. Not a bad dance move there though, Andy.

Parked at Homesford. The yellow car is now Robs.

Homesford Cafe, a tidy little spot, popular with scooters, cyclists, walkers and us

Martyn and Sue surprised us by joining us for lunch, no good news on the Westfield front though, it is still awaiting an engine transplant.

Rob had to leave us after lunch but it was great to meet you and your Zetec engined car. All the cars had Zetec engines today, is that because they are the best? oops, I'll get me coat

Next, we went on the road that runs parallel to the road we should have gone on, that's because I am a numpty and I didn't take a right turn where I should have. It is still a nice road, higher with better views, but personally I prefer the other road, it has more twists in it. I am glad nobody mentioned it anyway😁

We arrived at Tissington and parked up across from the Hall

Tissington Hall

Herberts cafe was full so we sat outside with views over to the church

Large amounts of cake were consumed. Andy, he who eats a lot, had Mint Matchmaker Brownie with ice cream, so he still had more than everyone else, how does he do that? He had to share it with the other Andy, after he had made a start on his breakfast earlier when the waitress got it wrong and served him with the other Andy's food.

Our more humble slices of cake being guarded by Steve

When Andy and Becky got in the car, their keys were still in the boot lock and they had to ask Martyn to pass the keys to them. It was an @IanK (Bagpuss) moment, when he left his steering wheel behind. You sit in the car, shuffle into a comfy position, put your harness on and what? you can't drive it without the ruddy keys. Don't mention it though will you🤣

Andy and Becky did finally leave

Bye bye to all our SORN friends and for the more insane, bring on the winter!!!!

Nice to meet you both ,I thought  the colour of your car was spot on  and the stripe Sets it off a treat . It’s probably one of the best looking westfields I’ve seen I also like the fact that your  hat and snood match the stripe on the bonnet.

Hope to see you again
