@Ali and Gail the only thing better than cake is cake at 10 000 feet. Everyone should go to Switzerland, we were last there 9 years ago, before the Westfield arrived and I had long hair then too. I will be 50 in 2 years and Glen officially retires in 2 years so we will be celebrating with a trip to Grindlewald, we are saving up already. We are looking at your pictures and absolutely loving them  Have a great time and be careful.

Day 11 of our adventure saw 185 miles taking us through some beautiful mountains and hills travelling to the south of Geneva and then up to le Bourg in France a nice gentle drive stopping off at the most wonderful patisserie/ cafe where the selection of cakes was overwhelming,

as we travelled through the french back roads the countryside changed in charaoto rolling hills and quaint traditonal villages  before arriving at our accommodation for the night

Enjoying following your tour, please keep the updates coming. Believe you're heading to Versailles soon? Whilst the palace is interesting (once you get used to the throng photographing and taking "selfies" everywhere!), the gardens and estate (free to enter, small charge for the Trianon estate, from memory) are something else. Lots of peaceful walking, you can soon leave the sightseers behind, most seemed to ignore the estate when we were there last June!. You probably knew this already, but just in case! Hope this helps. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

This has been a great thread. I think a lot of us are deeply envious. I love the variety of places you have visited. Keep the words and the pictures coming.

So onwards and upwards here we are on day 12 heading northwards to Emance
We started with a leisurely breakfast and packing the cars as today was to be a gentle run up, so saying auvoir to Catherine and Eves we headed up the road 15 miles to meet up with everyone, stopping at a supermarket petrol station Jude’s car was again overheating and pouring water out, removing the thermostat cap revealed a lack of water despite the header tank being full,
So once again topped up , the water was draining away and the oil level getting higher . this coupled with the blue smoke from the rocker breather and exhaust, showed the head gasket had probably gone and the engine needed a rebuild. So being in a safe and public place with very helpful staff who even charged her phone for her So 2 hours later and with the recovery and hire car instigated. She insisted that we carry on as we had a long drive today, so knowing all was sorted and she was safe we headed off
Driving through some stunning countryside in 32c temps saw us have a few stops to rehydrate. Time pressing on we stopped to phone our hotel as reception as with the late start we were in danger of arriving late and having no accommodation, after explaining the situation the manager kindly said we could arrive up to 8pm but not after. So directions re routed we had to jump on the motorways to get here in time
Almost here we could see the rain and lightning ahead and yes we drove right into it and then out into bright sunshine
So a day of mixed fortunes and 235 miles

Today we lost one of the crew @Jude - The Mad Widow When "Binky" let it's cylinder head gasket go if we've all guessed right and Binky needs the flat bed truck home. I must say that Gail and I hold the upmost respect to Jude for just throwing all caution to the wind and coming on such a big adventure on her own with us.

It won't feel quite right returning to the UK with out everyone that started this epic adventure. 😐

What a shame Jude can’t be with you to the end, but what a fantastic, epic trip!

Sad you can't complete the trip with the others Jude. Hope you get back ok and you get the car back on the road soon. We've really enjoyed reading about your adventures, so let us all know when you get back safely.
