Captain Colonial Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 At the car show on Sunday, this turned up and made a very late flash entrance at 3 PM (show opened at 9 and closed at 4 - draw your own conclusions): Naturally enough, everyone crowded around to take a look. It had two large engraved chrome plaques on either side of the bonnet that said ”Bentley Bologna”. At first glance it looked sweet, but the plaques looked period wrong - very wrong. However, beware the power of the internet... someone Googled the reg on their phone and announced in a loud voice, “1934 Bentley chassis, but only a modern body! It’s a replica!” (Some replica at 142k!) https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2016-08-20/cars/ref-22-1934-bentley-3-litre-roadster-the-pitney-special/ And with that, the crowd sighed and melted away... A few minutes later, a man I’d spoken to earlier came by and said to me, “142k and they used M6 bolts instead of period correct? He was diddled!” 😂 Beautiful car nonetheless. Quote
