Charcoal or Gas

In my opinion, you cannot beat food cooked on lumpwood charcoal.

@SootySport this is what you need to use!

Outback Combi. Best of both worlds. meat and fish over the coals, prawns, eggs, etc on the gas hotplate.

Talking of Castrol R, there was an old 50's MG type car , making a lot of noise and the old boy driving it the other day. Screamed past the other way and left me wafting in Castrol R ............ brought back found memories !

Oh and back on topic..................... my barbecue coals have now died down after the barbecue this afternoon :t-up:

My BBQ's taste more like paraffin, but in answer to the OP's question, it's only a BBQ if it's on charcoal and it rains at some point.

Gas BBQ's.  are very convinient.   If I had to light coles, wait until they get to the right temp and stage of burn before cooking I'd not bother at all...   gas is just easy.  Also due to the easy control your less likely to get crunchy on the outside, raw in the middle.

then there are different types of gas BBQ. It's important if your looking for BBQ taste to get the type with a good atomiser.   Basically the fat drips out of the meat and burns on something and then smokes the meat adding that BBQ flavour. If the fat just drips past the heat sauce without burning then it will taste more like you've done it under the grill in the kitchen.

We have a small cadac safari chef we use when campervaning and it is really good.   It smokes really well.   But I bought their larger version for home and it did not work the same it was basically a hot plate.   So i sold it.   I then bought a Weber q which is very easy smokes quite well (not quite as good as the safari chef) and the parts all just fit in the dish washer after. It's all very easy.

Gas is for indoors. Leave it there. Barbecue on coals is the only form of barbecue!

Really into smoking and flavoured rubs at the mo, using smoking chips in a kettle barbecue adds more than just flavour, the lidded cooking process keeps the meat juicy too.

Fun fact - I've never been invited to a BBQ @BCFs.

It takes an element of skill to cook on a charcoal bbq and get the food cooked properly.

Not overdone but not raw on the inside.

Years of practice and yes sometimes in the rain :sun:
