Yanto Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 This sort of fits in the "Start Line" area of the forum. I won't go into details, but after a frustrating 2 weeks I have decided selling cars/registration numbers is not my forte and I shall be keeping my car and plundering other funding options for a business, I was never 100% certain about selling it so I'm happy with that and it will reside at "yanto towers" for a good while longer, not that I was going to let my membership of the club lapse as i know that within a couple of years I would have drifted back into Westfield ownership. Now, my car is track orientated, my partner has finally decided that she would go out in it occasionally if it had a proper windscreen and side screens, oh and a dry sump oil tank that doesn't broil her feet, this car could well turn into a track spec touring/cruising car. Now, to the hunt for a windscreen; new or used, that is the question? Ian 2 Quote
6carjon Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Hi Ian Good to hear you are keeping the car. I suspect the dry sump tank is not needed in your car now. You could have it converted back to wet sump easily and sell the dry sump to a tvr racer. They are 000s to buy new. I know the car had a wet sump originally. My car with a rover engine did many track days with a wet trapdoor sump and semi slicks without problems. I know this from experience of blowing my first engine on a track day with a normal sump do I do drive it quite keenly. Good luck jon 1 Quote

We now go out for regular trips (in summer of course) - hope these will extend in distance and duration as I have a half hood ready to fit. Side screens brilliant as are half doors (the thought of a rather large and rather hot exhaust a few inches from her left elbow was also rather off-putting apparently ) I picked up my screen and wiper stuff on here - it was even quite local but they don't come up very often and I had to settle for an alloy finished one but have since painted in satin black and it looks ok if not toooooo closely inspected Haven't bothered with any form of heater / demister but looking into a small heater to take the chill off her feet 1 Quote
Yanto Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 When you say "side screens" do you mean the polycarbonate deflector ones or the full "door"? I know @Geoffrey (Buttercup) - North Yorkshire AO swears by half door deflector combo (with half hood) 1 Quote
6carjon Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Half doors the carbon or polycarbonate ones make a huge improvement on my aero screened car. It's horrid without them but tolerable with them. I am speaking as if a passenger From a driver, being able to relax on a journey with your arm resting in the extra bulge most provide really does make a difference and so much less air in the cockpit. Thrustyjust Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Well done Ian. Would be sad to see you go. I guess budget dictates what to buy, but second hand with a mint car is always something you may not be happy with on buying, unless the items are mint and a decent price compared to new.......if that makes sense !! 1 Quote
CraigHew Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 The polycarbonate ones allow you to breathe with a windscreen. 1 Quote
Yanto Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 has anyone been in a car with Sport Turbo taller windscreen? and if so was there a noticeable difference to a std one. Just like my last car this one hasn't got lowered floors and i was always aware of how low the top of the screen was to my eyeline. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 There are a few around, but off the top of my head, Ash - @Rednop1 has built one... Dont forget, the factory do a different, also taller, sidescreen for the ST windscreen. And you can use with a half hood, if required, but there isn't a full hood for the ST screen when used with ZK or FW bodywork. Quote

There is now a full hood for use with the taller ST screen and taller roll bar (single hoop) dave. I assume it's from the sport turbo. The NC500 demo car has one fitted as I had endless giggles trying to squeeze my lardy A*** and long legs into it when David took me for a spin. That has the FW rear I don't know if it would fit the Zk though. I've just fitted mine and it does make a great difference to me, even sat on sport turbo seats on runners (on a lowered floor tho) my eyes were below the upper frame line in the demo car. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Excellent news, do you know if it's been adapted for FW, or is just a case of trying to make the ST hood fit? (The ST bodywork looks like FW, but the scuttle and tub are different.) Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I couldn't tell you to be honest I suppose it must be a tweak of the sport turbo hood. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Just done a bit of hunting on the NC500 special ed model, and found some photos of it with the hood on. It looks like a modified version of the standard FW design. What I can't tell from the photos is if it includes the various tweaks from the Sport Turbo to improve sealing around the side screens. Steve (sdh2903) Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Well I can say when we went out I was impressed at how well it sealed as it was below freezing and with the heater on the cabin was pleasantly warm. Unfortunately I can't compare to the standard roof. I could never live with a full roof anyway as I'd just break down laughing every time I'd try and get In the thing. Hopefully they will offer a tweaked version of the msa bar half hood to fit the bigger screen. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Does this show any more detail dave? Quote
