Greenstreak-Andy D Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 It is the same on my duratec engined car, there is a small triangular gusset welded in the front corner of the chasis, it bolts through a hole drilled in that plate. Any photos? Just interested to see what's possible! Thanks 1 Quote
CL290005 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I was told it was because of the torque rotation agsin due to engine mounts being low. Quote
Valentinik Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Any photos? Just interested to see what's possible! Thanks No problem, unfortunately my engine isn't fitted at the moment, so the picture is only of the brace but it should give you an idea. Bear in mind, my engine is mounted at 10degrees so only needs one brace, other duratec engined cars and the ecoboost cars have this replicated on the other side of the chassis. Quote
CL290005 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Interesting photo I might weld these in just in case I change my design which uses the original top mount on the 1.6 engine with a cross brace 1 Quote
Valentinik Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Interesting photo I might weld these in just in case I change my design which uses the original top mount on the 1.6 engine with a cross brace It may be worthwhile, what you can't see on the photo, (if you didnt already know) on the engine end of the brace, westfield just install a normal suspension metalastic bush to allow a small amount of movement. I can take a picture of mine if you want one. Mike Quote
CL290005 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Mike I have pictures of the brace but I did not realise they had welded in triangular plates I think my brace is likely to be ok but worth considering Quote
Greenstreak-Andy D Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Thanks for the photos, good idea. My chassis doesn't have those triangular brackets unfortunately ☹️ Andy Quote
