At the recent open day it was hinted that the factory will only be building new cars with all new parts going forwards and that this would replace the s2000 as the factory flagship.

 

I think it is just too difficult and risky now to be using a recon sierra diff and recon engine and gearbox and trying to get a new reg.

 

I assume this is the reason for the mazda box and diff.

 

Looks like it will be a quick car out of the box with great tuning potential .. albeit with a different engine characteristic to the NA cars of today.

 

I guess it is closer to the old ZEi220

I think it's probably a Ford Motorsport ECU (made by Bosch), but not 100% sure

Actually Simon was saying to me that it was a sort of parallel vehicle to the S2000, (though obviously S2k engines have a finite supply!) and that the S2000 was ideal for the specialist/enthusiast part of the market, who didn't mind sourcing engines/gearboxes and having second hand examples.

But that one of his biggest issues was the buyer who wants a brand new "zero miles" drive train, and wants it at the performance end of the model range.

Chris, without knowing the detailed spec of the new kit, it's hard to compare S2000 prices. Be very wary of the using the factory S2000 "complete kit" less wheels and engine/gearbox price, it was surprisingly basic in a number of areas in reality, I bet most of us, depending on final spec, ended up at least around £20k and some of us ahem, a few grand more!

As a comparison, and some context, the prices for a Honda F20C, last time I looked were just over £8000 from your Honda dealer, (sorry, don't know what ancillaries that included), and a new S2000 6 speed gearbox was about £5000 plus Vat again, from Honda!

As Mike said, it is, (or the plan certainly was) the Ford Racing ecu - there's a big range of stuff produced by Ford in the US to encourage adoption of the engine amongst builders and tuners.

These two threads are starting to get a lot of cross-over now, will combine them!

Moderators note, have merged the two near identical threads on the new Sport 250 model, as you'll see if you've read this far, they were starting to get the same questions in both threads! At least the answers (such that we have) are all in one place now!

Yes looking at the spec on the Ford site that's the ECU they are using matches BHP performance

However there is a big difference with the torque Ford site gives 270 ft lb which is 366Nm

The choice of engine might be the reason why Westfield went for the 2.0l as its all in the one package

As I said in an earlier post, I've seen the graph for the spec of engine Westfield are using, and the torque peaks somewhere around 350 lb ft, which does equate to the torque they're quoting!

The whole point of the engine is that it's available in different specs, some requiring hardware, some just mapping. I'd guess that the factory has opted for a tuned package rather than the bog standard engine...

Cool news. I'm being promised around 330bhp and 380Nm with the 1.6 Ecoboost. Allegedly the internals will take 350bhp without modification.

 

I did consider the 2.0, but it looked like it needed dry sumping and I also thought the 1.6 was more "seven-esque".

 

Even with the 1.6 you need the V8 bonnet.

 

I will be using the MBE 9A9 ecu for mine.

 

Either way...washing machine on standby for the pants!!

That's a picture of Ash's old s2000 if I'm not mistaken.

The car in the picture was in fact my mega s2000  and the pictures was taken by Mr Simon Bailey Westwood and got to be honest i'm very impressed with his skills  considering he only took it with his iPhone 4

Well when I was at the factory earlier this week there was a turbocharged car sitting in the showroom area, where I had coffee with Simon W., and it certainly looked brand new to me, not like Ash's or anyone else's old car!

As I was there to talk about my XI, I didn't take too much notice, but I did have a quick look at the open engine bay whilst waiting for my coffee, hence I know it was red and black, the engine was a brand new turbo unit, and it was all shiney and new! :)  :)

I  very much doubt it would have been a new sport 250 as I was at the factory at 2pm Friday and the sport 250  is very much still in build  and still on its build trolley

 

Got to admit I'm a massive vtec lover but I think this will be an awesome engine package and Simon was eyeing my debit card up as soon as i drove through the factory gates and i think it will be hard to hold on to it when I get a test drive in the car

Daft question does it use a turbo or is it na?

Do you have to use a mandatory box or is it like every other ford and you could use a type 9.

Could be an attractive upgrade to someone who has a well sorted car but looking for an engine upgrade

It's really good to see westfield looking like they are moving forward

I think it uses the same bell housing as the Duratec so easy to get one to mate to Type 9

Could you get a Type 9 strong enough to cope with the torque, though?

Mmmmm..

I wonder if they'll end up using other sized ecoboost engines.

Quite like sound of the 1.0 ecoboost which with few external upgrades can make 205bhp with good torque. Good for a Sprint Class A Westie?
