TAFKARM Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 3 grand for 15 mins... To be honest maybe it's because I see so many, but it's 'just a plane' to me.... Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 We often see Chinooks fly over the general direction of Naphill base and apparently land for a while, then leave. We're a few miles from the site but have a clear view across the intervening country. The base itself is surrounded by woodland so a view inside is difficult even from the road outside the base. These attack helicopters are a recent phenomenon though. They are an improvement on the RAF's other recent aircraft passing here. Quote
Andrew Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Well, it's an aeroplane of sorts.. quite amazing. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Brilliant! Lighter than air I presume? A bit like my RAF aircraft above... Quote
Kevin Wood Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 In keeping with the general theme of this thread, here's my first attempt at editing a GoPro video - of my "other" hobby. A climb to 20,000 feet* in mountain wave in a glider. *- although I fumbled with the GoPro on the way up and missed the top of the climb. It was recording to over 18,000. https://vimeo.com/240778824 3 2 Quote

It was some old fabric framed thing.. probably found in a German castle after the war. I had a winch launch, and I do remember the acceleration nearly taking my head off my shoulders! Flights lasted about 20 mins.. sank like a brick! Couple of Qs, How far from the airfield did you travel, and what was the actual flight time? Do you get a bit light headed at 20,000 feet? Quote

I probably didn't stray more than 10 miles or so from the airfield on that particular flight, although we do also do cross country flying. That flight was just under 2 hours duration. We use Oxygen above 10,000 feet so no, no real problems with the altitude. It was cold, though! My feet took a while to regain their feeling upon landing! 1 Quote
Andrew Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I've posted this one before I think.. but this thread would be a nice place for it to live. Me in the passenger seat of a Slingsby Firefly. 1 Quote
