Decisions... - decision made Mega S2000!

Good point on the heated screen, although I think it will be included and I don't think I'll get much of a discount at this point if I say I don't want it. It also strikes me that it might clear the screen to the extremities better than just the heater. I actually wasn't going to go for the heater, but in the end decided it would be easier to fit at build time than later if I then decided I wanted one.

Dave, I noticed the throttle body kit listed on the price list for the S2000 at £1250 inc vat, but Simon did say it isn't available yet.

I assume the Mazda diff is from an MX5, any ideas what model it's from, or any photos of it? Ive not been able to find any reference to a 3.77:1 ratio on the web.

Which Mazda Diff is it? From which model of Mazda?

Just a guess but i'd have thought it would been out of the NC mx5, i believe they used it in the sport turbo? I did ask about having one fitted to my chassis when it was modified for the NC gearbox but under no circumstance was it a possibility.

It seem like a good alternative as the sierra items become harder to find.

Hi Mike,

We are having lots of problems with the NC diffs - they are proving to be very weak in the race cars and are damaging the cones inside them. They are requiring oil changes at every round to try to keep them OK. Unfortunately it is very hard to tell when they are 'shot'. earlier in the year we had problems running some cars on the Dynapack as the power would 'oscillate. between the packs and we were unable to perform power runs on the vehicles.

A change of diff on both cars sorted this and when the diffs were stripped they were found to be worn. This didn't happen on a normal rolling road.

We are used by the BRSCC to test the Output of the cars used in the championship and numerous cars had differential problems which cause a strange handling trait. Only when the diff was swapped for a good unit did the driver notice a big improvement.

The Championship is now looking into the feasibility of using the Quaiffe unit as the diffs are causing so many problems :-(

Thanks for the info, it's a shame they don't seem to be as reliable option. It may be a blessing for me at least that one wasn't fitted to my chassis.  Hopefully the same issue won't arise on too many westfield, if it does turn out to be an NC diff thats fitted.

The Torsen diff fitted  to the earlier Mk2's was a great diff (same internals as an S2000?) - if this is the diff being fitted then it is great.

+1 on the factory demo car looking the dog's: I'd be making them a cheeky offer.

I don't have a heater on my car and can honestly say it's never been a problem through last winter (albeit it was relatively mild). My thinking is that if it's -15 you shouldn't be out driving for pleasure anyway....!

There are however some older gentlemen members who wouldn't be without their heaters.....

Great purchase choice...only 79 (ish) more sleeps

Oi, I resemble that remark!

The first year I put the heater in was a cold one. I did roughly 2000 miles, many on lovely bright sunny days. (Many of which were rather cold). The heater meant I could still feel my feet after the first hour or so.

Westfield as standard have never fitted isolating valves to the heater circuit. It makes all the difference, being able to turn the flow of hot water to the heater off. Valves can either be the simple type where you turn a lever on the valve to open or close it, these would typically be fitted under the bonnet, which has to be removed to alter the valve.

Alternatively, remote, cable (or electrically) controlled valves are available. These can then be opened or closed by the driver from the cockpit.

They help tremendously if you have to use weather gear in the summer/hot weather, then you're not sweltering at low speed, and can still turn the heater fan on if you need to demist without pumping out hot air.

I'm lead to believe that the diff is the one they use in the sport turbo, and there is a 3.7 ratio used in one version of the NC, so that doesn't sound great   I don't think I'll be giving it the same hammering that race cars get though so hopefully will be OK.

Iso valves on the heater circuit sound like a good plan
