Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO
User names, and where did it come from. A couple of people have asked me recently where I got my user name, Red Spider from. Well here's the story. Way back in 1980 my first car, Mk 1 Ford Escort, had a coming together with a lamp post on the way to work one morning. It needed a new wing, front panel and bonnet, the second hand bonnet I got from a scrap yard was from an earlier car than mine and had the screen wash jets on it, so rather than leaving a hole I put some legs on, painted it and turned it around. It didn't really have a name back then until I needed a handle when I got a CB radio and a work mate said "well you've got that Red Spider thing on your bonnet", and I became Red Spider. The Escort went, so did CB and the spider got put in the loft with my modelling stuff. When I joined a modelling forum and needed a user name it was time to dig it out, give it a fresh coat of paint and Red Spider lived again. So what's the story with yours? TAFKARM
I've been on enough forums and too enough forum meets to realise it's eaier to have my name, than introduce myself as something like "Shaggy Bombastic 82".

Mooch
I've been Mooch since early teens. Brother-in-law came up with it as a reference to my propensity for lying in bed until the afternoon, as I did quite a bit then. On joining the RAF, nicknames were the norm and rather than be given one in the first days of joining up, which would probably not have been a complimentary one, I offered up 'Mooch' and it stuck, at least it did during my airman service. It was quietly dropped when I was commissioned, but family and some old friends still use it.

Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO
I could have used my nickname from when I was a kid, but in this politically correct world it wouldn't go down too well. In fact I saw an old friend yesterday who greeted me with " ey up .... how you doing"
