It looks pretty simple to do, I'll wait until I hear back from the MSA today and then see where we go - I'll also ask them what the formal appeals/petition process is if we need to go that route.

A nationwide petition seems a good idea with all clubs etc able to participate

How about asking Westfield how many car's they built with those cages. Gives you an idea then on just how many people are in the same boat as yourselves. If you can then give that figure to the MSA, say it's 100 cars were built with them on, even if there is only 50 cars out there competing that's a substantial number of people, which should hopefully help your case.

Due to a lack of response from the MSA I have now posted an online petition. Please let your voices be heard, whether you are impacted or not, if you are leaving the sport or even if you just object to the lack of consultation from the MSA, please complete the petition.

The foundation of the argument is simple - it doesn't make sense. No testing process is required for the new rules, just a minimum tube diameter of 45mm. To change, many competitors are required to make their cars less safe by removing welded in bars. The minimum diameter required in the approval process is 35mm. 38mm is ok pre-1.1.95. There is so much contradiction that the ruling cannot be deemed suitable for the sport.

Further update - in addition to completing the petition, please also send a letter or email raising your concerns to the Chairman of the Speed Events Committee. Send the letter or email to Cheryl.lynch@msauk.org with a copy to John.ryan@msauk.org

The MSA have expressed their support of our objection and advised us to follow this process to appeal the ruling.

Again please share this far and wide and encourage as many people as possible to express their concern.

As per my conversation with John, please can you ensure the below letter reaches the Chairman of the Speed Events Committee? Thank you.

Dear Sir

I am writing to raise a formal objection to the change to the ROPS regulations for 2016, specifically the change to the accepted roll bar dimensions. This decision eliminates many perfectly acceptable and safe vehicles from participating with no reasonable rationale why a T45 steel, fully welded roll over bar in 38mm x 3mm is any less safe than a bolted hoop in 45mm x 1.5mm.

This decision has forced two competitors so far to retire from the sport and many others are negatively affected. Please review the following two forum threads to give you a base idea of the scale of impact:

An idea just dawned on me, is anyone going to the 750mc Birkett race meeting? There are often Westfield's running in this event with bolt in front cages. Might be an idea to take pictures of these cars and their scrutineering stickers as ammunition for the msa. The same applies to the strikers David.

The bolt on front cage is approved in the 750MC 2015 regs as long as it's made by Caged.
