Dan76
Hi, I've been looking for my perfect westfield for some time now and think I have come to the conclusion that the best way to get what I want will be to build one myself. my previous experience comes from rebuilding classic cars so a Westfield build would be quite refreshing, certainly beats 6 months of grinding rusty panels and welding in new. I'm looking for a zetec car thats focused more on track days than road work and being 6'2" tall was looking for a lowered floor car. I've had some discussions with Westfield who have been very helpful, they have helped me in putting a proposed spec together which is mainly based around a mega kit but for a car engine. I just wanted some opinions on the spec below before I pull the trigger. If there are better options or things I've missed your thoughts would be appreciated. Mega Zetec (complete kit less engine gearbox wheels and tyres) Upgrade to full cage Upgrade to Wide track wishbones Front anti roll bar Rear anti roll bar Upgrade to Westfield performance brake kit Upgrade to LSD Upgrade to powder coated chassis Track Day damper upgrade I'm going to supply my own engine and gearbox. I'm assuming that if I get a new crate blacktop zetec along with a recon type 9 gearbox that will allow me to get a new registration when the time comes. Young Pretender
Looks great.. exciting times It all depends just how far you want to go I guess.. and how much you want to spend. For example you could aim for some lightweight aluminium uprights, brake callipers, and even dampers.. then some lightweight wheels. I'm not sure how much of this Westfield can offer to be honest. maybe some bits could be sourced independently.
Kit Car Electronics
You'll definitely enjoy it more than old rusty panels! Personally I'd skip the anti-roll bars and get them from Playskool instead. Type 9 box is good, but if you're going for a recon then better to spend a little more with BGH and get good ratios from the outset. We love spending other people's money by the way :-)
Rhett Turner - Black Country AO
What seats are you going for
Dan76
I'll take a look at the playskool site with regard to the anti roll bars. With regard to the seats I asked westfield to remove them from the kit. I'll need to find some seats suitable for my oversized rear end. Kingster
Why zetec? That is what I have gone for and have my reasons, so not a negative comment. But if starting from scratch go for a duratec or s2000 build.
XTR2Turbo
Technically to not have a q (if that is what you mean by new registration) you can only have one recon part. Normally this is the diff so you would need to buy a new quaiffe alloy type 9 box if following the letter of the law.
Stu Faulkner
If you don't say anything then the factory will weld in the brackets for left and right hand drive. The pedal brackets on the passenger side of mine are an eye sore and collect dust. If you fit unpadded seats then a lowered floor might be too low. Best thing to do is sit in one first. Stu. Dan76
Thanks for the information regarding the registration. I had assumed the Westfield LSD was a new part hence the gearbox was going to be my one recon part. Do Westfield supply new gearboxes with their kits then to get a new plate and if so is it then impossible to get a new plate on an S2000 car. A new gearbox sounds pricey... I was going down the Zetec route as it's an engine I've used before and looking around seems to have a decent amount of power for the money. Kingster
Don't get hung up on a plate. Build the car you want. Plates are ephemeral.
Dan76
Your probably right, would just be nice to have a nice shiney new reg on it when its done. Probably wont make it go any faster though
CraigHew
well my S2000 (built by the factory) had a used (2004) engine and gearbox. I guess because they were bolted together they counted as one piece ( ) It got a 13 registration....
CraigHew
So, do some more research. I'd go S2000 (engine and gearbox) route. but I'm extremely biased
Stu Faulkner
You won't beat bang per buck if you go s2000.
