Trailer advice

I seem to be responsible for starting my fair share of trailer threads so apologies for that!

This BJ minno shuttle has appeared on PH.  It's not exactly what I'm after but seems good value so I'm giving it consideration.  I can't work out if the load bed length - just 11ft / 3 meters (although 11 ft is actually 3.3528 meters) is sufficient.  Has anyone succesffully towed a Westy with one because I think even the shorter wheelbase Westy's are longer?

Then I have a couple of other questions about general trailer / Westy use:

1.  Do I need a tilt bed? I doubt my next Westy will be unusually low because I want it to be road going (albeit track bias)

2.  Can you Ioad a minno shuttle or sprint shuttle when the trailer is decoupled from the tin top (will be using the trailer as dry storage). I note some trailers have special supporting arms for this.

3.  Can a minno shuttle or sprint shuttle be braked when being manually moved?  I will need to manouvre it when unhitched from tin top and will be on a slope.

Cheers

Mark

11ft in length should be enough. My trailer only has a 10ft bed and I only have minimal overhang at the front.

To answer the other questions:

1. No. If needed you can uncouple the trailer from the tow car and tilt it using the jockey wheel.

2. yes. The trailer in the pictures appears to have the clamps fitted for rear stays.

3. Yes. there's a handbrake lever next to the tow hitch.

Thanks Mark, appreciate your comments.

Any further comments on the load bed length or personal experience with a minno shuttle welcome. I'm in a position where I will be buying a trailer before I have a car so trying to give myself a reasonable chance that a (any) Westy will fit.

Cheers

Mark

The only thing I'd be careful of is the bed width, 5ft5 would be tight for a standard car and may not be enough if the car is fitted with wider offset wheels etc.

If bed length is only 11ft. youre not going to get a Westy in an enclosed trailer.

I have a minno trailer not a shuttle. My car fits OK with length but does need either the spacers taking off or a set of escort steelies I bought for 99 pence fitting to drive on to the trailer. It does manoeuvre well though and easily fit in a garage if that helps. My westfield is an seight so considered a wide I expect.

Width wise, Mazda kits and SDV's are the widest at the rear and will scrape the sides of a 5'5" bed. I have a SEIW and that has an 1" gap either side when I'm wearing 7" wheels.  I'm used to a tight fit.

Bernie, Mazda kits are exactly the same width as the standard modular SEIW's and will fit a 5ft5 bed with plenty of room to spare (around 3 inches each side). only the Sierra SDV's are wider.

Dave's Mazda is wider than mine by an inch or two but that maybe due to wheel offset.  he was struggling to get it on my trailer during the build.

Dave's running quite a high offset on his wheels, which is the point I was trying to make earlier.

Your car is also an early SEIW which are not exactly dimensionally identical the same as the current ZK and FW bodied SEIW

The length will just about be OK but the width will be a struggle if wide track or wide wheels etc

I have a trailer that is 5ft 5 inches but not enclosed

My FW with wide track fits on with about an inch either side.

Cant see it fitting on that trailer without hassle

Length  is tight also i believe

Just read that spec..... 800Kg load ??? I know your Westie won't be anywhere near that BUT if the plate on your firewall (just like mine that is 900kg by default)  says more than that and VOSA give you the once over I reckon it'll cost you.

Nem..........
