AdamR Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Adam - is the battery built into the "The Hero" or can i get a spare battery to change over on a day out? Yes, it's built in and cannot be removed / changed. There's a review I found useful here: http://gizmodo.com/gopro-hero4-hands-on-action-cam-goes-beast-for-a-pric-1640225592 It notes that the new batteries are slightly lower capacity than the old - although the new 'insides' may make up (more that make up) for that slight drop. But its not clear yet. It also notes that the LCD switches itself off quite quickly - prolonging battery life. Again, no long-term testing of exactly how long results though Thanks Dave! I guess they have released a few cameras to 'important' people throughout the globe for pre-release reviews... Good idea about the auto-off function for the LCD, hopefully the reduction in life isn't too noticeable. Thanks Adam, I'm torn, I almost ordered the Hero 3+ Silver but I think for the extra £80 I could really use the night timelapse and the 240 fps low res shooting. I'd go for it if I thought the battery would be ok in the Hero 4 silver, it's lower capacity than the Hero3+ and has a screen... Might have to wait for it to come out and see how the battery performance is No worries - I guess it is a bit of a trade-off, yep! The 240fps mode will do 12.5% slo-mo without any sort of 'jerking' which is very impressive, but the 3+ Silver will still do 120fps at 720p resolution if you need, and do time lapse photos. The low light performance is actually pretty decent, but I guess it will have been improved to some extent for the 4. One thing that may be worth a think is that you could get a 3+ Silver and an extra battery (http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/cameras/gopro_hero3_battery/c551p12089.html) or the battery bacpac (http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/cameras/gopro_battery_bacpac_2013_black/c551p12010.html) to double the battery life, and still have enough change over the 4 Silver to go for a meal out Cheers, Adam Quote
kevip6 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Thanks Adam, the important difference for the Hero4 seems to be that you get full control over the exposure settings and so for low light timelapse you can set the shutter speed which is a massive plus for that type of photography. Looking forward to the release date! Quote
AdamR Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Ah - yes, if you're getting into that sort of 'involvement' then such functionality would definitely be a benefit! Quote
kevip6 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Are these going on for sale on Sunday? Could you put a silver aside for me? Quote
