Playo
After just 18 moths or so of ownership I've decided to throw the towel in I've come to the conclusion I'm not meant to own a westfield due to the constant issues I've had with getting my car reliable. I bought the car back in late 2012 with the idea of turning it into a track car, since then I've done around 500 miles and only 1 track day which ended early with engine failure. I set about replacing the engine last year, as well as adding a few new parts in the hope of making the car run at it's best, the car hasn't moved further than the garage for an mot and two local runs when the engine as of today started to rattle badly. I no longer have the motivation to carry on and replace the engine yet again so I'm offering the car as is at a reduced cost of what I believe would be the selling price for it if it was running. Price £6750 Registered in 1992 (the car was bought in kit form in 1988) Westfield SE narrow chassis 2.0 Zetec engine (Silvertop) on throttle bodies running Omex600 ecu ITG sausage filter- new this year WOSP high torque starter motor- fitted new last year Denso lightweight alternator- fitted new this year Raceline baffled sump-fitted new this year Polo rad and silicone hoses- fitted new this year 13 row Mocal oil cooler with thermostatic sandwich plate- fitted new last year Dry cell battery ( forget the make but I'll check that) fitted new last year 12 months MOT and 6 months TAX Type 9 5 speed gearbox with 4.4 open diff. Plays kool full roll cage Pays kool rear diffuser with 2 strakes Aerodynamix carbon fibre high level aero screen. Aerodynamix carbon mud guards Carbon CSR front cycle wings Carbon dash and centre section. Momo suede D shape wheel with snap off boss Braid winrace A 13" wheels with yoko A048 tyres- about 500 miles of road use. The car was recently rewired to neaten everything up behind the dash and in/around the engine bay, I also added a shift gauge and power point in the dash for a gopro. I also have all the weather gear and windscreen etc which I will include in the sale I'm sure I've most likely missed out a few things so please any questions you have I'll gladly do my best to answer. Burlers
What a shame Playo; your car's got some great bits on it & you're so close to having some proper fun. If your minds really made up, then GLWS.... If you're not sure, pick up a working engine mate & you'll be enjoying all that hard work All the best ;D
Bean
A lot of work and money has gone into this car, it's a great price even though it may require a bit of engine work. Good luck with the sale
Playo
Thanks guys, I've spent a long winter getting the car ready for this year and it's not been easy to juggle this along with work/family commitments so this extra issue would mean I'd most likely miss this season before I can get round to doing the work. A replacement used engine can be had for around £200 so as long as the new owner has the time to do it this it could be very worthwhile
Playo
No interest? I will be dropping the oil and doing a compression test the weekend, this may give a better idea as to what the engine issue is. I have been reading a sticking hydraulic lifter can make a nasty noise so fingers crossed. ..
alexander72
Plato I might be in touch mate in a few days. Let me know how the comp tests go. James

Playo
Thanks for the offer Alladin! I'll let you know how I get on the weekend. Here's a clip I took of the engine noise http://s43.photobucket.com/user/playo/media/Westfield-Zetec/20140505_140404_zps3c07f86e.mp4.html?sort=3&o=0 It started after about 20 mins of driving it, I drove it until the oil was warmed up then took it over 5k rpm and it just started to make the above noise, firstly intermittently then constant. The oil pressure was showing 1.5 bar before I shut it off. @Alexander I will update this thread with the compression test results over the weekend

Bean
Hmm.. the noise does sound like a potential dodgy lifter. Certainly a top end noise. Fingers crossed for you
darve
yeah definitely sounds top end
Playo
Sorry guys I still haven't had the time to go borrow the compression tester off a mate! I really am struggling for spare time from now until at least mid august when I get back from holidays. With that in mind I will be open to sensible offers
Playo
Update, I went over the garage yesterday and finally did the compression test. I had the following, cylinder 1 - 180 cylinder 2- 170 cylinder 3- 165 cylinder 4- 170 I then drained the oil from the sump and found a gold silt and metal fillings, so I think it's safe to say the engine has had it. Captain Colonial
Actually, although number three is a tiny bit low, the numbers aren't bad. The swarf isn't good, but the numbers are decent. If you can drop the sump and check the bearings first, you might get away with a top end job.
