Wile E. Coyote Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Drop the finance and start saving instead - don't then need gap insurance and it will be a lot cheaper. If I was spending new C63 money, I'd probably still want RTI gap... for the cost, it's worth it for the peace of mind that you won't be thousands down if someone writes you off on the way home. Mind you, if I was spending that sort of cash, I think I'd buy a nice cruiser (A8 4.2TDI?) + tin top toy (XKR?). With the Westie as a more extreme toy, you've got pretty much all the bases covered with that sort of combination... Don't overlook the XFR. Depreciation seems to be a killer on these too, making them really tempting 2nd hand. Quote
Deanspoors Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 However much I'd like a new car, I think I'm going to have to be sensible and buy a 2-3 year old model. I really don't fancy a Jag, or a GTR, well I'd probably like a GTR but I think the running and servicing costs would be mental. Quote
Speed Freak Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 if you fancy the gtr ( I know I do), why not get one a year old or so giving you lots of warranty left over, saving you a packet- you can pick up a nearly new one for around 50-55k, that's a hell of a saving over the other options you were looking at. And Im pretty sure the others wont go as well as the gtr, and wont handle anywhere near as well either try insurance with one of our wscc sponsors. cant imagine the other running costs will be any different to say a merc- Quote
Hellski Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Pre 2011 GTR's require servicing every 6 months or 6,000 miles whichever comes first, from 2011 service interval was changed to being an annual service or every 12,000 miles whichever comes first. I owned a 2010 model and annual servicing costs using one of the renowned indies was £1,150. If not tracked, tyres and brakes would be good for 10,000 to 15,000 miles, if tracked this would be very different! Full set of tyres if fitting OEM (run flats) would set you back £2,000 (many owners now fitting non run flat Michelins at £1,200 per set). Front and rear brake discs and pads would set you back £2,500. Insurance was not too bad for vehicle in the performance league of supercars, rural location, 39 yrs old and 7yrs NCB £690 fully comp. Engine seems to be bullet proof as long as serviced, with loads of scope for squeezing extra ponies. True about interior quality but then who cares when you can blow away almost all other supercars Fantastic car and wouldn't hesitate in owning another one Quote
