Mark (smokey mow)
2 and a bit hours is no time at all to visit Arras and the surrounding area. The town is very welcoming and you can spend all of this time just having lunch and a walk round the town square. I think Battlefield visiting is best left to a another more dedicated tour. I think it is worth visiting one of the memorials if you have never been - even just for an hour.Kirkboy has a dedicated tour for those looking to do battle fields.http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/105236-somme-trip-2014-pt2/?p=1096138 And I agree with David, that even if it is just for an hour it would be of interest to stop at a memorial for one of our rest stops. Pistol Pete
Sorry about the radio silence on this one, but all back on top of the planning. I have booked the following crossing: Euro Tunnel Outbound 24th July 2014 09:36am Return 27th July 2014 18:06 We will be meeting up at Tescos in Ashford (Postcode TN24 0YE) at 8:15am were you can fuel up ready to hit France. Leaving there at 8:40 to get to the Euro Tunnel at 8:55 ready for checking in. And the following hotels: Hotels Hotel for first night 24th July http://www.ibis.com/gb/hotel-5645-ibis-honfleur/index.shtml Hotel for second night 25th July http://www.ibis.com/gb/hotel-0480-ibis-amiens-centre-cathedrale/index.shtml Hotel for the third and final night 26th July http://www.ibis.com/gb/hotel-1422-ibis-reims-centre/index.shtml All hotels have off road parking (although the last one I understand is down the road from the actual hotel) Just to be clear, all members need to book their own crossing and hotels. Breakfast at all hotels is an option extra (that I have chosen ) and the room prices are the same for 1 or 2 people so if you don't mind sharing that will half the cost for you. kevip6
Sorry Pete I was definitely up for this but it's going to clash with my only dates I can take a family holiday this year. If that changes I'll book up but it's unlikely unfortunately

Pistol Pete
Well, due to personal reasons it just Gail and I. Two days completed and driving through france in the Westy is amazing, 32' heat with traffic free winding roads. Day 1 was a total of 300 miles to get to Honfleur, well worth it - a lovely habour town that we spent the morning exploring. Day 2 started at lunch with a 135 miled drive to Amiens. A bit cooler today with a good mix of nearly flat out blasts (not allowed flat out due to passenger), hit 90 at a couple of points, and winding through the forrests. Ibis hotels are very good, you wouldnt want to stay here for a week, but somewhere clean and cool to lay your head after a long drive they are great. Off to reims tomorrow
