Mark Stanton Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 No apple press ? !!!!!!!! thats unusual for rural France - they're ten a penny over in Brittany and all the apple trees are stacked out there to Quote
Rab (bombero) Reid Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 The apple trees are full of apples. Never seen so many. Any ideas what I can do with them? Apple Puff .. .. how do you make an apple puff? Why, you chase it around the garden! .. .. .. I'll get my coat! Quote
s2rrr Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I guess it depends on the process and the yeast. From memory cut the apples into segments pips skin the lot add sugar to recipe and a decent yeast. Ferment for a while covered then after a while it needs to go in a demijohn with a fermentation lock on and adjust the sweetness as you go. Should be full recipes on tinterweb. Bob Quote
FILFAN Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 If I buy a press can I bring the mrs and kids for a week. Then we can have cider apple vodka jelly Quote
Norman Verona Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 Phil, done. Mark, I've been to all the usual suspects, lots of wine making stuff but no apple presses. There a farmers who come round towing a large press and press them for you. Maybe that's why they don't sell them here. Carriage from the UK would make it very expensive. Anyway Phil's bringing one. Captain Colonial Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 The apple trees are full of apples. Never seen so many. Any ideas what I can do with them? Get James to cut them down. Pay him with apple cider. No more apples to process. Problem solved. Next! Quote
jonjh1964 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Norman, cider is really easy, no need for yeast - ferments on the natural yeast on the skins of the apples. Puree, cheese, press, barrel, leave (as long as you can), pour, drink, fall over.... no problem. Retain a small amount of slightly sweetened puree for pork roasts throughout the coming year. Quote
Norman Verona Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 Steve we don't have them. The government put them on planes back to Romania. I'll have another look for a press. Quote
User0083 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Big apple bobbing competition? Practice shooting them off people's heads with a cross bow? Apple wine is good, see it a lot in Devon/Cornwall. You could do apple brandy, apple liqueur and apple juice! Why type of apples are they? Quote
Paul Gibney - Lancashire AO Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Tarte Tatin as you are in france.... Quote
