Captain Colonial
It does save £60, but you might need to get any weather gear custom made. Soft Bits for Sevens will do bespoke versions - it's possible they may even have already done one for this bar. True - and with respect, the speed of response and delivery from Soft Bits for Sevens has not always been kindly commented upon within these august boardroom walls... Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
I had that very issue, it's why I pestered and pestered and nagged Simon till he eventually signed off on a factory Half Hood. (Which I've been extremely pleased with, hence can personally recommend, but the frequent contactability issues and associated long lead times are why I don't typically recommend SBFS first). Captain Colonial
I had no such problems Scott Prompt replies, delivery when originally stated, and some good support afterwards Good for you! Hence the reason I carefully used the phrase, "not always".
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Indeed, my careful wording too.. (I tried on and off for six months with little joy to purchase one from them). They are a small business, run from home, making cleverly thought out and excellent quality products. But many, many, pages have been written on Blatchat (they specialise in Caterham gear) about the "issues", so it isn't just me, though I'm aware I was just unlucky. KugaWestie
I did proceed with caution, but can only speak as I found really. Wierd how different experiences are had by different people!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
I know, I suspect time of year has a lot to play in it too! Mind you, to hijack Pete's point Westfield, like Plays Kool, are also (as it's by no means an automatic assumption!) a club sponsor... Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Ian, welcome to a classic example of "thread drift", Though at least it's distantly related to the original topic!
Dommo
I tried the Westfield half hood in anger the other weekend - 40 miles during that torrential summer downpour we get. Good news - the top of my head stayed dry. The rest of me was completely drenched but unlike the previous year with no weather gear it was still 'comfortable'. I got caught out again on the same journey the next day, but the difference this time was the road was dry when it started raining not waterlogged. I stayed dry - no issues whatsoever. Without trying to be too altruistic, I would always look to purchase from a club sponsor, even if the price is a little more (within reason!). That way we should all benefit. bhouse
And back on topic, "What to do when it rains?" Do what I do. Get wet. Get very, very wet...
Norman Verona
The firts time we visited here (La Foie in France) we were at Le Mans. We went from camping Bleu to Arnage for breakfast. As we left the cafe it started spitting. By the time we were on the motorway it was pouring. My son and his wife were following in a S2000. We pulled into an Aire and he put his roof up we donned rain jackets. After a few miles I could feel the rain dripping down my neck. We got here and we were soaked through, I mean really soaked through. Shoes, socks underwear trousers, tee shirt, everything was as wet as it could be. Henrietta found us dry clothing and we changed. Richard showed us around. We had lunch outside, it had stopped raining by now and then HM says we'd better go. I asked for an extension on that as we were likely to drive back into the rain. We did and by the time we got back to the camp site we were soaked again. I suppose it was all worthwhile.
WestyNottm
The overriding impression I now get is that it is OK to get soaked and part of the experience in owning a Westy. I guess I am being too precious about my seats and carpets - not to mention myself!
Norman Verona
WestyNottm, I bought my car (it's a Caterham, you'll have to forgive me) from a dealer in Bromsgrove. As I was leaving it started to rain and they fitted the hood on over me. It poured all the way up the M42 and M1 and i was "damp" by the time we got back to Sheffield. In those days I didn't have a garage and it was kept outside with a waterproof cover over it. It rained non-stop for 6 weeks, I kid you not. My lovely red Wilton carpets were ruined! I now have a full carbon body (car not me) and tillet seats so it can get as wet as anything and nothing rots.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Well, yes and no! Certainly, I wouldn't worry unduly about it or get too stressed. The most important thing is to use the car, you'll find a way that suits you best, what ever that may be. But it's a funny thing those that don't use roofs of any description, whether thay have aeroscreens or still retain windscreens, do seem to shout loudest, and always try and get the last word! In the mean time, those of us with hoods, half hoods etc, quietly just get on with enjoying the cars.
